International Management Institute (IMI), Bhubaneswar offers a two-year PGDM programme. Nimisha shares the placement eligibility criteria for PGDM students that comprises primarily the overall CGPA up to the previous semester and academic attendance.

International Management Institute (IMI), Bhubaneswar offers a two-year PGDM programme and the placements for the PGDM batch begin in the second year, starting from the month of September. The eligibility criteria depends upon the CGPA of the previous semester/1st year and the attendance in various placement related activities throughout the course tenure.

The CGPA until the last semester, before companies visit, should be more than 4.5 CGPA. Otherwise, the student won’t be allowed to sit for the placement. In most instances, companies consider the CGPA of first year. Thus, one needs to maintain the CGPA right from the beginning of the course commencement. Many companies also have their own criteria for shortlisting candidates. For example, some companies consider candidates with CGPA of seven or above.

Some organizations have domain wise criteria because they want students from specific domain such as Marketing, Finance, etc. Few others set their criteria based on domicile and even language specificity. At the college level, the student should maintain minimum CGPA of 4.5 or above. The students with CGPA less than 4.5 don’t even get the degree. Thus, it is very crucial to maintain minimum cutoff CGPA from the perspective of placements.

Right before the start of placement season, college arranges many Placement activities as part of student grooming sessions, including CV formulation, guest lectures, mock group discussions, mock interviews, mock aptitude test, simulation, designing PPT presentations and general knowledge sessions. Each student needs to maintain attendance of 75 per cent in all these activities, otherwise the student will be debarred from a first few campus placement drives. Each missed session attracts a strike and the Placement team members maintain proper record of strikes. Some important medical emergencies are of course taken into consideration but that is done on case-to-case basis. The placement activities are organised by the Placement team members and the concerned faculty member. At times, these activities are also outsourced to organizations such as Career Carve.

To be precise, there is no minimum academic attendance requirement to sit for the placement process. The academic attendance however affects the CGPA — students should maintain 90 per cent academic attendance. Anything below the stipulated academic attendance percentage would affect the overall CGPA. Therefore, academic attendance indirectly affects the eligibility criteria for placements up to a certain extent.

There is no other eligibility or barrier to prevent students from sitting for the placements. The criteria are set by the college to maintain prevent any complacency among the students regarding placements and ensure that only deserving candidates get the right opportunities.
