In the recently concluded placement season at IMI Bhubaneswar, the institute created a new record with 100 per cent placements for the 2018-20 PGDM batch. Nimisha Sharma shares key stats from the placement season including top recruiters and highest & average salary packages offered in various domains.

IMI Bhubaneswar recently concluded its ninth Placement season with a 100 per cent placement status with more than 50 recruiters participating in the placement process, out of which 30 per cent revisited after the previous season. The batch strength saw an increment of 46 per cent. While 14 per cent of the batch successfully obtained PPOs (Pre-placement Offers), every other student who registered for the placement process was successfully placed in organizations of their preference. Upholding diversity, this placement season saw two per of the batch cent opting for Entrepreneurship while three per cent opted to continue with their studies.

The institute managed to create 8 per cent opportunities for global placements. The stupendous placement season resulted in the highest domestic CTC achieved being Rs 17.29 lakh by Qualcomm. The average CTC of the top 25 per cent was Rs 10.83 lakh and the average CTC of the top 50 per cent was Rs 9.30 lakh while the class average CTC increased by 18 per cent, from Rs 7.15 lakh to Rs 8.43 lakh.

The largest sector in terms of offers made was BFSI and AMC at 30 per cent, followed by Strategy and Consulting at 28 per cent. Manufacturing and Textile accounted for 12 per cent job offers, Transportation and Logistics for eight per cent, FMCG and FMCD for six per cent, Media and Design Intelligence for five per cent, IT for five per cent Healthcare and Real Estate for three per cent.

The functional diversity was also upheld as students received offers for varied roles and functions such as Analytics, Sales and Marketing, IT, Human Resources, Operations, Financial Management and General Management. Sales and Marketing led the way with 39 per cent, followed by General Management at 17 per cent, Financial Management at 14 per cent, Analytics at 12 per cent, Operations at 10 per cent and HR & IT combined at 8 per cent.

The companies that offered the highest packages were Qualcomm in Finance & Analytics domain with a CTC of 17.29 lakh, Federal Bank in FM and Sales domain with a CTC of 10.5 lakh. EuroMonitor International offered a CTC of eight lakh in Analytics domain, Byju’s offered a CTC of 10.48 lakh in Sales & Marketing domain, Networker’s Home offered 10 lakh in General Management and Varite offered 11 lakh in HR domain.

Some of the major recruiters in the recently concluded placement season include QualComm, ANZ, Hyundai, Euro Monitor, Polycab, ACC, Federal Bank, JK Paper Mu Sigma, Amazon, Varite, HDFC Bank, ICICI Bank, Markets & Markets, Maven Magnet, Analytics Quotient, Kotak Mahindra Bank, CCD, UTI Mutual Fund , IDFC Bank, Byju’s, Outlook, Varite, Squareyards, Networkers Home, Kent RO and Extramarks.

The questions asked by the recruiters were domain specific and designed to evaluate basic knowledge of the domain. The students who had previously worked on live projects or internship in the same domain in which the company was hiring, had an edge as their concepts were clear and had hands-on experience in the field. MBA is a field where more the practical knowledge you have, more you can achieve. After the technical round, most of the companies conducted HR round wherein they asked questions such as why do you want to join this company and where do you see yourself 5 years down the line?

The clarity in your perception is very important during the interview. To put is simply, blabbering won’t work. If the recruiter asks a direct question such as, ‘What’s the Rate of Interest of Savings Account’, you have to say 4 per cent. There are no ifs and buts to such answers. In domain-based questions, you can use jargons studied in your course so far, give real life examples, talk about strategies, refer to the current scenario and even give your recommendations. In HR round, never get stuck with question on job location, you have to flexible.
