Placement Interviews – Process & Challenges
The interview process is a life-changing event for a candidate’s life because it is decisive in their future course of action. During the interview process, following things should be kept in mind:
- Be honest and professional in your answers. These recruiters have been taking interviews from last many years, so they can easily differentiate between an honest and a manipulative answer.
- Be thorough and specific with what you have done during your summer internships project. Summer Internship Projects (SIP) form an important of conversation during the interview process. If recruiters sense that you do not have clarity regarding what you have done during your SIP, it will create a wrong impression on them.
- If you are from technical background and have done any project that you mentioned in your CV, be thorough about that because many questions can be asked from the same. Moreover, keep yourself updated with latest trends in that particular field.
- Why you have chosen any particular specialization and why do you think yourself fit for the role — these two questions should be thoroughly prepared by you. Based on these questions, recruiters judge your clarity of thoughts and objective in life. When you are answering such questions, try to align your answer with the company’s vision and mission. Try to identify your aspirations with that of the organization and it will leave positive impact on the recruiter.
- Often questions regarding location of the job is asked by the recruiter to test your flexibility and how fast you can adapt with the ever changing business environment. Companies look for candidates who are open to any location across the country. Do not give reasons such as language barrier or cultural difference since such things leave negative impression on the candidate.
The major hurdle faced by aspirants during any placement process is that they often do not get the preferred combination of company and job profile. In such situations, students choose to underperform and this gives a very negative image of the institute. It is advisable that more than company, you should try to align with the profile you wish to make your career in because with further experience you can shift to better opportunities and package anytime.
However, if you end up in profile you do not wish to make your career in, try to search for better opportunities and shift as soon as possible. In such cases, if you spent a substantial amount of time in doing a job you don’t have interest in, then you plan to change your field and apply in some other domain, your previous work experience would become insignificant.
