The college has been trying to contact companies to get work from home for us: Bhumika, IIEBM
These are first-hand student accounts on how our young population is managing to keep their exam prep or college course work going from the confines of their homes. In case you want to share your lockdown study experience, write to us at publish@shiksha.com.
Like many other sectors of the economy, coronavirus has disrupted the higher education sector too. The global lockdown of educational institutions has caused major downfall and interruptions in academics. It has led to the cancellation of internal assessments, examinations and has caused disruption in practical exposure as internships have been canceled for the time being.
Due to the rising concerns about the COVID 2019 situation, many companies have put their placements on hold as the pandemic has affected the businesses worldwide. Even though AICTE has canceled summer internships, which help in experiential learning, there are some companies which are providing work from home. The B-schools have completely moved their classes online.
In this current situation of lockdown, our college has been providing us with all the facilities, which are possible for them to enhance our learning. We have been provided with video lectures of all the subjects by our faculties ensuring the completion of the syllabus on time. We are also being given assignments intermittently so that our internal assessment can be done. Certain case studies are being provided to us to improve our intellectual and thinking capabilities.
We also have faculty assessment i.e. each internal faculty of our college has 10-15 students under them and they interact with us at regular intervals. They assess our performance, guide us and help us to cope with the problems faced by us. This further benefits us in our personality development and self- grooming. It improves our interpersonal skills.
Our placement cell organizes aptitude tests in intervals and the results are shared with us. This helps in improving our aptitude which has become a major criterion adopted by most of the companies before conducting group discussion and personal interview for selection, as this helps in simplifying the selection procedure.
The college has tried to contact companies to help us to get work from home. As a result, most of the students have started their internship and are working from home. This has further helped us in improving our resume and stand out from the rest.
Our college has provided us with links of various webinars, which are being conducted by different organizations and institutes and also helped us in improving our resumes which is important for the final placements point of view.
Our college has gained access to Coursera and is providing us with various certification courses, which has proved helpful for us to gain insights regarding different courses. Links of various certification courses were also shared with us which has been provided for free by various institutes. We have been given access to various e-book links as reading books not only enhance our knowledge but also helps in vocabulary expansion and improves our focus and concentration.

Here is the honest take: MERI is pretty old-school when it comes to showing up. They stick to a 75% attendance rule, and they aren’t just bluffing—it’s actually tied to your internal marks and, more importantly, your eligibility to sit for placements. Think of it less like a flexible college degree
