University Interview Experience at IIM Bodh Gaya

When it comes to placements, the interview experience at IIM Gaya is fascinating. From the beginning of the recruitment process to getting placed in dream companies, the journey throughout is an amazing and lifelong learning lesson for all candidates appearing for it. For some companies, the placement process consists of multiple rounds, whereas for others, it is completed only in a limited number of rounds.

The Human Resources Department of the company conducts the vast majority of the interviews. In addition to this, one or two members of the relevant department (the department for which a company hires a candidate) sit in as panel members during the interviews. In most cases, the Head of the Department (HOD) is present in the panel; else, senior managers are there to judge a candidate. Most companies in the Consulting domain have three rounds: first is the Group Discussion (also known as GD), followed by a Quantitative Aptitude Test and finally the Personal Interview (PI) round.

Questions that are asked during the personal interview round mainly come from the candidate's resume. This is because the HR representatives want to learn about the candidate's behavioural knowledge and determine whether or not the candidate is well-versed in his or her field. In addition to that, when hiring for the consultant role, HR primarily asks behavioural questions pertaining to Management. The panellists also inquire about the candidate's experiences, including the work completed and lessons learned during the Summer Internship Program. Some of the companies also ask for current trends in their respective domains.

There were approximately 184 students in this year's batch who participated in final placements. The remaining students either chose to participate in off-campus final placements or are currently on sabbatical. These 184 students have received over 200 job offers from a variety of companies. Out of these, Marketing was the most requested by the batch, as has been the case since the inception of IIM Bodh Gaya.

The length of the personal interview varies from company to company; for example, some companies have a limit of not exceeding the interview timings for more than 20 minutes, while other companies have no such limit. The shortest interview that was conducted lasted approximately 8 minutes, and the longest interview that was conducted lasted approximately 32 minutes. This information can be gleaned from previous experience. However, the consulting interviews typically last a long time and take up a significant portion of the total time allotted for selection process.
