Xavier Aptitude Test or XAT 2019 is all set to be held on January 6, 2019. With about six months left for the exam, XAT aspirants must already have started the preparation. Revising chapters and taking mock tests make up for the large part of entrance exam preparation plan. But one crucial aspect about full proof preparation is thorough understanding of the question paper pattern of the exam one is preparing to appear for.

The same applies for XAT too, especially because the XAT exam pattern is different from other entrance exams. XAT is also considered to be tougher than CAT. It has one extra section to excel in – Essay Writing.

XAT 2019 question paper pattern is expected to be like that of previous years. Here’s a brief overview of XAT 2019 exam pattern:

The XAT 2019 question paper will be divided into two parts:

Part 1 will consist of Decision Making, Verbal and Logical Ability and Quantitative Ability & Data Interpretation.

0.25 marks will be deducted for any wrong answer and 0.5 marks will be deducted for more than 8 un-attempted questions.

The XAT question paper consists of 100 questions in total, but in XAT 2018 there were only 98 questions divided into five sections. The question paper was of moderate difficulty and easier than previous years.

Section-wise analysis of XAT 2018 question paper:

Quantitative Ability and Data Interpretation: The overall section was moderate to difficult.

Data Interpretation had 2 sets only; but they were difficult. One question was tricky and the other was calculation intensive.

Verbal Ability: This section of XAT 2018 was slightly difficult than usual. The Reading comprehensions dominated the paper. Grammar section had easy questions but Parajumbles was little time consuming.

Decision Making: This section was indeed difficult as compared to previous year. The situational conventional type of decision making questions dominated the section with 18 questions and just 3 were based on numerical, analytical approach.

General Knowledge: The GK section was fairly doable with a major focus on economic and business GK.

The Essay topic was “Ethical Practices and Sustainability: Do they co-exist?”

XAT 2019 is scheduled to be held on January 6, 2019 and XAT 2019 application process is expected to begin in the third week of August 2018. Admit cards for XAT 2019 will be issued in December 2018 and the test takers can expect XAT 2019 result in the last week of January, 2019 followed by XAT 2019 cut off marks.

The XLRI waitlist movement is usually high for Delhi campus between 350 to 600 spots. For Jamshedpur the movement is low between 100 to 180 for BM and 130 to 230 for HRM.

Yes, XAT essay writing round can be considered tough, given that you have to present your point with clarity, examples and convincing arguments - all in limited word count. You need to have a lot of practice in writing short, clear and logically structured essays.
