The Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) has announced changes in CBSE Board exams 2026 pattern impacting both Class 10 and Class 12 students. The three key changes in the exam pattern are introduction of two board exams for Class 10 as per NEP 2020, launch of On-Screen Marking (OSM) for Class 12 answer sheets, division of science and social science papers. This is done to streamline the process of examinations.
Changes in CBSE Board Exams 2026
Here is a list of changes announced for CBSE Board exams 2026.
- On Screen Marking system for Class 12 answer books. Under this process, the answer scripts will be evaluated digitally instead of the traditional physical mode. However, Class 10 answer books will continue to be evaluated physically in 2026. This eliminates totalling errors.
- No verification for Class 12 marks
- Dual Board examinations for Class 10 offers opportunity to students to appear for two board examinations. One is considered as the improvement exam. This reduces the exam stress and provides improvement opportunities within the same academic cycle
- Revised question paper composition for Classes 10 & 12. The question paper design is aligned with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020, accelerating its transition from rote-heavy examinations to competency-driven assessment
What is the Format of New CBSE Question Paper?
Students can check below the new format of the CBSE question paper format.
- 50% Competency-Focused Questions:These include case-based questions, source-based integrated questions, application-driven MCQs. This test understanding of real-life contexts rather than memory recall.
- 20% Select Response Type Questions (MCQs):Standard objective questions that is designed to assess conceptual clarity quickly and precisely.
- 30% Constructed Response Questions:Traditional short and long answer questions is now reduced in weightage.
