In a revealing assessment the PARAKH Rashtriya Sarvekshan 2024 report, by the Ministry of Education has exposed critical learning deficits among students. Conducted by the National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) in December 2024, this nationwide study highlights alarming gaps in foundational skills, urging immediate action to reform the education system.
The PARAKH (Performance Assessment, Review, and Analysis of Knowledge for Holistic Development) initiative evaluated students in Grades 3, 6, and 9 across government and private schools. Key findings include:
Struggles in Mathematics, Language and Science
Students displayed significant weaknesses in basic arithmetic, problem-solving, and logical reasoning, hindering their ability to tackle complex concepts.
Language Proficiency Gaps- Assessments revealed poor reading comprehension and writing skills, with many students unable to construct coherent sentences or understand texts.

Regional and Socio-Economic Disparities
The report highlighted unequal learning outcomes across regions and economic groups, underscoring the need for inclusive education policies.

The Ministry of Education plans to leverage the report to roll out targeted remedial programs and align with the National Education Policy (NEP) 2020’s focus on foundational literacy and numeracy. The PARAKH report serves as a critical wake-up call, pushing stakeholders to ensure India’s students are equipped for academic success and global competitiveness.
