CBSE has announced tentative datesheet of class 10 and Class 12 board exams 2026. Both the exams would begin on February 17, 2026

The student enrolment in private schools has overtaken that of government schools in Rajasthan for the first time. As per the official data, for the 2025-26 academic year, 49.9% of students are in private schools, while 47.1% are in government institutions.

The Education Department noted that this marks a complete reversal of the situation a decade ago. In 2015-16, nearly 60% of students studied in government schools, while private schools had just over 37% enrolment. The numbers have steadily shifted since then.

Officials and experts believe the reasons lie in the perception of better teaching quality and facilities. “Parents want English medium instruction, digital classrooms, and closer monitoring of their children. They are willing to pay fees if they feel it improves learning outcomes,” a senior education officer told, as reported by TOI.

Central government schools such as Kendriya Vidyalayas and Jawahar Navodaya Vidyalayas account for only 2.8% of total enrolment. Activists caution that the decline in government school numbers is worrying, given the large public investment in infrastructure and teachers.

Officials said steps are being taken to counter the trend, including the introduction of smart classrooms, English medium sections, and improved training for teachers. But the latest enrolment data shows that parents across Rajasthan are increasingly moving away from government schools despite these measures.
