Supreme Court will hear the pleas concerning the evaluation formulae of CBSE and CISCE, and the CBSE Compartment exam 2021 cancellation plea on June 22.

Supreme Court has asked CBSE and CISCE to respond to the concerns of students and parents on the Class 12 evaluation scheme formed after the cancellation of exams. According to certain students many of the clauses were arbitrary and would hamper the future prospects of students.

Supreme Court will also hear the plea seeking cancellation of the CBSE compartment exams 2021 on the same day. A joint plea filed by 1,152 students wants CBSE to evaluate compartment students on the basis of the evaluation scheme finalised for regular students.

CBSE and ICSE have confirmed that they will declare the CBSE 12th result 2021 and ISC result by July 31. The optional examinations for students who are dissatisfied with this marking system and wish to sit for the physical exams must note that they will be conducted in August-September. CBSE has set up a panel to resolve scoring disputes.

β€œThis option of physical exams should be given at the very initial stage to both student and school to opt for either external examination or internal assessment. If any school or student does not want to opt for this internal assessment then a date may be fixed for external examination in mid-July or any date found conducive for holding of the examination,” said Vikas Singh, a Senior Advocate appearing for intervener UP Parents Association, Lucknow.

30:30:40 evaluation formula

He said that it has been provided in the CBSE scheme that marks obtained by a student in any subject in internal assessment (based upon marks obtained in final exams of Class 10 (30%), and Class 11 (30%) and Class 12 pre-board examination (40%)) shall not exceed the best marks obtained by ex-students in the said schools in the specific reference year (best year subject-wise amongst past three Class 12 board exams) by more than 2 marks. He termed this is as an irrational policy.

No uniformity between CBSE and CISCE evaluation schemes

According to reports, Singh argued that there needs to be uniformity in the evaluation scheme by CISCE and CBSE. CISCE has made English mandatory under the subjects to be considered for calculating the marks but CBSE has set no such criteria and any of the top three subjects can be taken.

However, CISCE said that it would consider the performance of students for the past six years, unlike CBSE which is checking how students fared in Classes 10, 11 and 12 only.

Problems with CBSE 12th compartment exams

Advocate Abhishek Choudhury, appearing for private students and those with the second compartment, said that these students would face problems because the CBSE Class 12 Compartment exams would be held in July or August when the situation was conducive but that they would face problems in securing admission to higher education institutes.

To this, the bench replied that it might direct that college admissions would be subject to the outcome of the board exam results but asked him to argue the points on June 22.
