SPPU to give option to final-year students to scan, upload answer sheets
Students also need to appear for 50 marks online multiple-choice-questions while 30 marks will be derived from internal exams, practicals, and submissions making it a total of 100 marks per subject.
Savitribai Phule Pune University (SPPU) has announced that the final-year students who will be appearing for their first-semester examination will be given two options to write the descriptive-type questions. They can either type on their devices or they can write the answers on an A4 size sheet, scan the answer-sheet and upload it.
There is a built-in scanning facility in the system of the external agency contracted to conduct the examination. The students will have to turn on the back camera at the time of scanning and get the written answer sheets scanned. Once the scanning is done, the software will convert it into a QR code, which the students have to submit. This is all done seamlessly and students do not need to do anything differently.
While speaking on the same, the Director of examination and evaluation, SPPU said, When the camera is turned on for scanning, there will not be an error code. There will be four questions of five marks each and students are expected to write 30-word answers for each question on one sheet of paper.

The technical committee set up by the university has sent its recommendations, but the final decision will be taken by the vice-chancellor, he added.
“The proctoring method is generally done by Artificial Intelligence and by physical proctors. AI proctoring is such that the camera monitors the movement of the student and sends a warning if there is an irregular movement. However, whether or not physical proctoring, where 25-30 screens are monitored by one person, needs to be done will be decided in a day or two. SPPU is moving towards a futuristic model with technology, transparency, and minimum people’s involvement so that the examination is fair. There will be teething troubles, but that doesn’t mean we don’t take the first step,” said Kakade.
