IIT Delhi and HORIBA India Collaborate on Pioneering Technical Research Projects
HORIBA India has partnered with IIT Delhi to support three cutting-edge technical development research projects aimed at advancing innovation in science and engineering.
IIT Delhi has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with HORIBA India to support three technical development research projects under HORIBAβs Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR) initiative. The projects focus on developing a low-cost, high-torque density EV motor using reduced rare-earth magnets; advancing 3D printing for smart fabrics and design prototypes; and creating an intermediate-temperature proton-conducting solid oxide electrolysis cell (H-SOEC) for green hydrogen production. New Delhi-headquartered HORIBA India operates across three key business verticals: Energy & Environment, Bio & Healthcare, and Materials & Semiconductor.
The Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed by Prof. Preeti Ranjan Panda, Dean of Corporate Relations at IIT Delhi, and Dr. Rajeev Gautam, Senior Corporate Officer at HORIBA Ltd., Japan, and President of HORIBA India. The signing took place in the presence of key project investigators, including Dr. Sagar Sarkar, Assistant Professor in the Department of Mechanical Engineering at IIT Delhi and Principal Investigator (PI) for the EV motor project; Prof. Saptarshi Basak from the Centre for Automotive Research and Tribology (CART), and PI for the 3D printing project; and Prof. Suddhasatwa Basu from the Department of Chemical Engineering.
Speaking about the MoU with IIT Delhi, Dr. Rajeev Gautam, President of HORIBA India, said, βWe are glad to collaborate with IIT Delhi, a highly impactful institute in the field of engineering and technology, to support the three research and development projects. These three projects are not only a push towards supporting modern technologies but also enable us to strongly contribute towards scientific skill development by uplifting the education methods and availability of modern equipment for the budding generation.β
Prof. Preeti Ranjan Panda, Dean of Corporate Relations, IIT Delhi, said, βOver the years, HORIBA Indiaβs generous contribution and CSR funding for technical equipment have played a vital role in supporting the education and skill development of students with disabilities at IIT Delhi, making a significant impact on their learning journey. The company has further strengthened this collaboration by supporting the three key technical research projects in major areas of innovation and progress."

The course outline of mechanical in IIT Delhi or IIT Bombay is similar and is quite well aligned with the course structure of top ranked international universities and the mechanical is one of the most desired and demanded branches in the IITs. The universities stand on similar QS ranking level and the facility and quality of infrastructure on average is almost the same in both the campuses, IITB has a lake, a pretty larger campus than that of IITD whereas IITD stands in a very desired location of Delhi ( in Hauz Khas) which stands very close to the international airport and various railway stations and is comparatively very green and clean than the outer Delhi. The trends of placement or students going for further studies differ very less and if you are really relying on placements to be a deciding factor, you'll still be in doubt. If we look at the opening and closing ranks of the department in both the colleges, the mechanical in IITB opens before it starts at IITD and also closes some numbers before, but the range is quite same. Many people choose IITB for its past trend or some local variables and similarly people also choose IITD if they aspire to go for civil services as Delhi is the hub for the preparation for UPSC and other civil services and again the accessibility of the nearby regions. I'd say both of the campus stand on the same level if the department is considered, the selection is totally depend on the individual depending on the local variables that affects him/her.
