The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Mumbai, in collaboration with the Office of the Comptroller and Auditor General (CAG) of India, has inaugurated a week-long Specialized Capacity Building Programme focused on Inventory, Logistics, and Supply Chain Management through the auditing lens of the Oil & Gas sector. This initiative aims to enhance the understanding of logistics performance and strategic auditing among senior government auditors, alongside leading academic and industry experts.
Fostering Excellence in Public Auditing and Governance
The inaugural session of the programme marked a significant milestone in promoting excellence in public auditing and governance. The event was held at IIM Mumbai, showcasing a shared vision between IIM Mumbai and CAG India to address the emerging challenges in auditing logistics and supply chain management within the critical Oil and Gas sector.
This specialised programme has been conceptualized under the leadership of Shri K. Sanjay Murthy, the Comptroller and Auditor General of India. The primary objective is to align auditing practices with the contemporary issues emerging in logistics, supply chain efficiency, and international trade, particularly in the Oil and Gas industry.
Strategic Academic Direction Provided by IIM Mumbai Leadership
The Director of IIM Mumbai, Professor Manoj Kumar Tiwari, has provided strategic academic guidance to ensure the programme reflects national priorities and the latest practices in the supply chain domain. Professor Vivekanand B. Khanapuri, Dean of SRIC at IIM Mumbai, was instrumental in shaping the academic framework, ensuring its relevance and rigor for the participating auditors.
Esteemed Dignitaries at the Inaugural Session
The inaugural day witnessed participation from several esteemed dignitaries, industry experts, and faculty members. Special recognition was given to Shri Vijay Kothari, IA&AS, Principal Director of Audit (Shipping), whose leadership and guidance played a pivotal role in curating a curriculum that is precise and tailored to the nuances of the Oil and Gas sector.
Day 1 Sessions Set the Tone for the Programme
The academic sessions on Day 1 laid a solid foundation for the programme's objective. Professor Tiwari kicked off the day by providing an in-depth exploration of the oil and gas value chain, delving into the complexities of logistics and the key audit touchpoints involved.
Deepak Shetty, I.R.S. (Retd.), Former Director General of Shipping, followed with a session offering global insights into maritime trade regulations, port logistics, and audit considerations within international shipping. The day concluded with a powerful session by Ruma Kishor, a renowned expert in supply chain management, who addressed risk management and operational vulnerabilities in oil and gas supply chains, a critical area in auditing.
Diverse Participation and Learning Opportunities
