IIM Visakhapatnam inaugurated with 39 officers from 36 DRDO labs across India, aims to enhance R&D management skills within the organization.
The Indian Institute of Management (IIM) Visakhapatnam officially launched a Certificate Program in Research and Development (R&D) Management on Monday, tailored specifically for scientists from the Defence Research & Development Organization (DRDO). This program, inaugurated with 39 officers from 36 DRDO labs across India, aims to enhance R&D management skills within the organization.
Program Overview and Training Modules
Professor B Srirangacharyulu, the program director, welcomed the participants and provided an overview of the training modules. The comprehensive curriculum covers essential topics such as:
- Concepts and Principles of R&D Management
- Project Management
- Simulation Techniques
- Organizational Behaviour and Human Relations Management
- R&D Processes and Support Functions
- Technology Management
- Commercialization and Utilization
- Nurturing Innovation and Creativity
- Risk Management
These modules are designed to equip scientists with the skills necessary for effective management of R&D projects and processes.
Chief Guest's Address on Collaboration and Conflict Management
Dr Y Sreenivas Rao, Director General of Naval Systems & Materials (NS&M), graced the event as the chief guest. In his address, Dr. Rao emphasized the importance of fostering strong networks among scientists across various DRDO labs. He underscored that collaboration and the exchange of ideas are crucial for innovation and addressing complex research challenges.
Dr Rao also highlighted the need for effective conflict management within teams, particularly in high-stakes environments like DRDO. He stressed that successful project execution depends on clear communication, mutual respect, and well-defined delegation of responsibilities to minimize delays and ensure efficient project delivery.

The college has improved its rank which is an indcation that IIM Visakhapatnam has overall made a vast improvement in the five parameters: Teaching, Learning and Resources (TLR) Research and Professional Practice (RP) Outreach and Inclusivity (OI) over a year. However, IIM Visakhapatnam PGP placements recorded during 2023 was 100%. Further, the the highest package and average package stood at INR 32.65 LPA and INR 16.61 LPA, respectively.
