The IMI SSI Programme is designed to integrate sustainability and social responsibility into the curriculum, providing students with real-world opportunities to engage in community development, rural empowerment, and social impact projects.
The International Management Institute (IMI) New Delhi has launched its innovative Sustainability and Social Impact (SSI) Programme, designed to engage students in community-driven initiatives and foster leaders committed to societal change and sustainability.
Aimed at Building Responsible Leaders
The IMI SSI Programme is designed to integrate sustainability and social responsibility into the curriculum, providing students with real-world opportunities to engage in community development, rural empowerment, and social impact projects. According to the official press release, the initiative’s core focus is to develop leaders with a strong sense of social responsibility and a commitment to sustainability.
Through this programme, IMI aims to equip students with not only business acumen but also the empathy and leadership skills necessary to address critical societal issues. The programme encourages students to work directly with underserved communities, enabling them to contribute to initiatives that have tangible social and environmental impact.
Core Areas of Focus: Education, Rural Development, and Empowerment
The SSI programme focuses on three primary areas of intervention: primary education, rural development, and the empowerment of disadvantaged communities. Students enrolled in the programme will actively participate in projects aimed at improving education outcomes, supporting rural communities, and uplifting marginalized groups.
Sonu Goyal, Dean of Academics at IMI New Delhi, highlighted the broader scope of the curriculum under the SSI programme, saying, "SSI broadens the curriculum to instill values, encouraging students to engage meaningfully with social and economic challenges. It’s about fostering responsible leadership and creating a positive societal impact."
Collaborations with Municipal Corporations and NGOs
To implement its vision, IMI New Delhi has partnered with a variety of organizations, including primary schools under the Municipal Corporation of Delhi, non-governmental organizations (NGOs), and rural development initiatives under the Unnat Bharat Abhiyan programme. These partnerships allow students to gain hands-on experience in real-world community development projects.
IMI’s collaboration with the Municipal Corporation of Delhi allows students to contribute directly to primary education initiatives, where they can engage with children and teachers to improve educational standards. Additionally, through NGO collaborations, students will be involved in various rural development and social welfare projects.

A Stepping Stone to Social Change
The programme is not just about theoretical knowledge but focuses on direct community engagement. IMI believes that by immersing students in projects that impact real communities, the SSI programme will nurture future leaders who are not only skilled in business but also committed to driving positive societal change.
Himadri Das, Director General of IMI New Delhi, emphasized the importance of the initiative, saying, “The SSI programme is a natural extension of IMI’s mission to nurture leaders who are not only skilled in business but also committed to creating positive societal change. By involving students in direct engagement with communities, we’re helping them become proactive agents of change.”
Empowering Changemakers
The programme aims to instill a sense of empathy and social responsibility in the students. Priya Chaudhary, Chair of the SSI Programme at IMI, pointed out that the initiative empowers students to become changemakers in society. She stated, “SSI empowers students to become changemakers, demonstrating that even small contributions can lead to substantial community impact. We believe that it’s crucial for business leaders to understand the importance of social impact and sustainability, and this programme offers them the chance to make a real difference.”
A New Era of Business Education with a Social Conscience
As businesses worldwide are increasingly expected to focus on sustainability and social impact, IMI’s SSI programme prepares its students for the future of leadership. By combining business education with hands-on community engagement, the programme ensures that IMI graduates not only excel in corporate settings but also play an active role in addressing the world’s most pressing social challenges.
