If the seat allotment is done in JoSAA counselling for BTech in IIT Mandi, then the fee is not refunded whether the candidate joins the course or not. It is refundable in cases where student joins the course after paying remaining fee and leaves on or before registration date and applies for a fee refund.

IIT Mandi Data Science and Engineering course syllabus include different elective courses. These are divided into suggestive baskets, which includes Machine Learning, Applied Mathematics, Networks and Distributed Computing, Neuroscience, and Statistics and Optimization.

IIT Mandi offers merit-cum-means scholarship to BTech students of different categories. The criteria is bifurcated for General, SC/ ST, and OBC category candidates. Students wanting to avail scholarship benefits need to meet the prescribed criteria. The criteria for MCM scholarship for General/ OBC candidates is mentined below:
- CGPA need to be 6 or more
- Credited earned should not be less than 18 times of semesters registered for
- SGPA should be 6 or more
- Students need to pass all previous examinations and there should be no backlogs
- Candidate should not have been penalised for unfair means

IIT Mandi BTech registrations start with the release of JEE Main application forms. The registrations for JEE session one goes on from Oct till Nov, a year prior to the admission session. While the registrations for session two are carried out in February. Candidates who pass JEE Mains need to apply for JEE Advanced.

For BTech in IIT Mandi, the students need to be Class 12 or equivalent pass with at least 75% aggregate. Students should have studied PCM subjects in the qualifying examination. It is also important that the candidates hold pass certificates at the time of admission for verification purposes.

Candidates taking admission in a BTech course of IIT Mandi need to pay a tuition fee of INR 8.1 lakh. The total fee include other components as well, such as hostel fee of INR 2.46 lakh. Additionally, the one-time fee is INR 17,000 and other fees is INR 3,000. The total fee sums up to INR 10.74 lakh. Students should note that mentioned fee is as per the official website/ sanctioning body. It is still subject to revision and hence, is indicative.

For the General AI quota, the IIT Mandi CSE cutoff for 2025 ranged between 3087 and 3123. For IIT Patna, the cutoff range was between 3215 and 3377. Similarly, for IIT Ropar, the cutoff ranged from 2357 to 2512. Therefore, considering these ranges, the IIT Mandi cutoff for CSE was comparatively more competitive for admission among engineering aspirants compared to IIT Patna, while it was less competitive than IIT Ropar, which had a more stringent cutoff for CSE admission.

If you belong to the General AI quota, the JEE Advanced cutoff ranks varied between 3123 and 14274 for core branches, including CSE, Civil, Chemical, etc. For the core branches, mostly the cutoffs are on the higher side for admission. No, for the OBC category students, the maximum cutoff rank for CSE admission was 1454 in 2025. In the initial rounds, the cutoff ranks were more competitive for admission. So, students seeking admission to IIT Mandi must target securing a rank of up to 1400 to improve their chances of getting admission to the CSE branch. However, with a cutoff rank of 3000, other BTech branches are available for admission. Check out the table below for other branch options for the OBC AI category students.
