No,  GATE is not compulsory and is only one of the criteria for admission. Aspirants with a valid UGC NET/CSIR NET can also apply. Candidates without any valid national-level exam score can also appear for the written test conducted by the institute.

Aspirants must meet the eligibility conditions as prescribed by the institute and qualifying exam conducting body. IIT Mandi shortlists students for MSc based on their scores in the IIT JAM entrance exam. Further, the shortlisted candidates are called for CCMN Counselling. At the time of counselling, seat allotment is carried out on the basis of exam score, seat intake, reservation policy, and cut-off.

CSE is one of the most popular branches in BTech this technology institute. IIT Mandi was ranked #26 among the top Engineering colleges in India by NIRF in 2025 rankings. The latest ranking is yet to be released. During placements 2025, the overall average and median package offered to BTech students was INR 21.64 LPA and INR 17 LPA, respectively.

The course ROI is good and the students get IIT Tag as well. Thus, it is a good choice for BTech CSE aspirants.

The total seats available across courses sums up to ~1014. Seat allotment for each course is carried out as per seat intake. Moreover, statutory and legally mandated reservations are followed as per orders from the Government of India.

The application fee for MS by Research/ PhD is INR 200 and INR 100 for General/ EWS/ OBC/ OBC (NCL)/ Transgender/ Foreign Nationals and Women/ SC/ ST/ PD, respectively.

JEE application fee for boys is INR 1,000, INR 800 for girls, and INR 500 for SC/ST/PwD/Transgender category students.

Candidates applying for MTech, need to pay GATE application fee for boys, which is INR 2,000, INR 1,000 for girls, SC/ST/PwD category students. Only after the payment of application fees, the form is successfully submitted.

IIT Mandi offers over 60 courses, approximately, in the streams of Engineering, Humanities & Social Sciences, Science, IT & Software. The offered UG/PG courses are BTech, MTech, BS, MA, etc. In addition, PhD and certificate courses are also offered. The mode of study is full-time and part-time modes, as well as online mode.

Yes, the technology institute offers M.Tech in Computer Science & Engineering specialisation. Admission to the course is through GATE followed by COAP counselling. Candidates with a score as per the cutoff marks are selected for admission. Candidates with a BTech degree issued by a recognised university are eligible to take admission.

The total tuition fees for MTech is INR 44,000 at IIT Mandi. This fee excludes application fee, examination fee, security deposit, etc. Students have to pay the required fee amount to confirm seat. Mentioned fee is as per official sources, but can still vary and hence, is indicative.
