JIPMER offers a variety of undergraduate and postgraduate courses viz. MBBS, MD/MS and B.Sc/M.Sc programs along with several Diploma and certificate courses. The Institute also offers DM/M.Ch/Fellowship at the super-speciality level and a PhD at the research level. For the academic year 2023, the JIPMER entrance exam is replaced with the NEET exam conducted by NTA followed by counselling.
For MBBS, one must have passed 10+2 Higher/Senior Secondary Examination with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology.
MBBS Admission will be based on the NEET exam.
For MD/MS courses, the candidates must possess an MBBS or an equivale

Yes, JIPMER is tough and the competition is very high but don't lose your hope you can crack the exam easily by studying hard and preparing your self for the exam. You can also try for the AIIMS. AIIMS is also a very well known institution which really good for medical studies

To do M.Sc, the minimum JIPMER cutoff for general candidates was :
Aggregate marks- 50
Minimum aggregate marks for MD/ MS-500
Minimum aggregate marks for MDS-200
For category candidates SC/ST/OBC-
Aggregate marks obtained -40
Minimum aggregate marks for MD/MS-400
Minimum aggregate marks for MDS-160

Minimum Marks: Candidate must score the minimum of 50% marks (for GEN/EWS), 40% marks (OBC/SC/ST/OPH) & 45% marks (GEN-OPH) in PCB stream. Eligibility Certificate: Candidates those have passed the qualifying examination other than the above mentioned subjects have to produce the eligibility certificate.
And for the JIPMER exam:-
Assuming you belong to the general category, as you haven't mentioned yours, you need 700+ for JIPMER Puducherry and 630+ for JIPMER Karaikal (As the previous year cut-off is 696 for JIPMER Puducherry and 623 for JIPMER Karaikal) and 650+ for other government medical colleges.

There are a total of 141 seats for the JIPMER MD course. The seats are further bifurcated among the different MD specialisations. The highest seat count is for MD in General Medicine, which is 20. The period of training for MD course is three completed years including the examinations period at JIPMER Puducherry. However, for the students with a two-year PG Diploma in the same subject, the period of training shall be two years. Moreover, the institute's training procedure is designed involves learning experience for candidates around the needs of the community.

Both the institutes are popular in Puducherry. The candidates seeking admission can compare the two colleges based on ranking, fee, and placement package. In the NIRF 2024 rankings, JIPMER is ranked #5 in the medical category and MGMCRI is ranked #47. For admission to MD at JIPMER, candidate should have a valid MBBS degree recognised by the Medical Council of India/Dental Council of India with at least 55% aggregate for General and OBC category candidates and at least 50% aggregate for case SC/ST category candidates. Candidate must hold the degree and mark sheets as well during the form filling and admission confirmation.

JIPMER is ranked five among the top medicine colleges in India in the NIRF rankings 2024. Thus, it is a good institute for medical students. During the three years of the course, 10 months are of peripheral posting and remaining 26 months include ward duties. The institute has designed the course and curriculum that prepare the graduate to handle any challenges at work.
