Lateral entry is generally associated with the B.Tech course. A student can get directly into second year of engineering, if he has done his/her Diploma after class 10th. The condition that you have mentioned does not come under lateral entry, it is considered as course change.

Engineering Diploma holders and B.Sc students are eligible for lateral entry into 2nd year of engineering in some of the engineering colleges. You are eligible for transfer to other branch or institute after first year based on university and college rules & regulations. Every university had different rules and regulations on transfer.
