Yes, it is always good to go for MCA as your higher degrees also play important roles in promotions. Although experience is good and can get you promotion, but going for MCA is always a good choice. Yes, join the next year, if you are not comfortable this year.

A normal MCA course consists of 3 years, whereas a lateral entry course consists of two years. If you join MCA after B.Sc, you must do 3 year MCA course. But, if you join MCA after BCA, then you can join lateral system and completing this in 2 years.
