Annamalai University Distance Education offers admission to candidates based on their merit. Candidates can get a seat directly through Spot Admission. Aspirants have to submit the filled-in application form along with the documents to the nearest Learners Support Centre or LSC in-person to get direct admission. All Spot Admissions are subject to confirmation or cancellation (if found ineligible) by the Director, CD&OE.

Annamalai University admissions are based on merit and entrance which may differ as per the course opted for. Candidates opting for UG level degree must have a minimum aggregate of 40% to 50% in Class 12. Similarly, for PG level programme must  secure a minimum aggregate of 50% in graduation. Additionally, candidates require to pursue either of the class from Class 8 to Class 12 along with a 'Nativity Certificate' to be eligible for admission at Annamalai University. Furthermore, candidates must secure valid scores in suggested entrance exams such as NEET UG/ PG, IMUCET, TANCET, CEETA etc.

The online/distance degrees offered by the Centre for Distance and Online Education at Annamalai University are valid. Previously, the University Grants Commission (UGC) did not approve its courses starting from 2015. However, Annamalai University DDE  received relief from the Madras High Court in an order dated 21.01.2023. Subsequently, following a reassessment by the UGC, Annamalai DDE achieved a qualifying score of 3.38, which led to extending the validity of its programmes until 2027.
