Parul University Hosts Former Guinea-Bissau PM, Marking International Day for Elimination of Racial Discrimination
Bridging the gap between communities and countries, renowned economist and former Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau, H.E. Rui Duarte de Barros, graced Parul University as a part of the Global Perspective Series at Parul University. The topic of discussion was aligned to commemorate International Day to Eliminate Racism. The interaction focused on Social Initiatives, Racism, and the Future of India–Africa Relations, encouraging valuable dialogue among young minds.
H.E. Rui Duarte de Barros is known as one of the most popular politicians in Guinea-Bissau, whose main goal has been to promote sustainable development and build a bridge of cultural democracy for the citizens of the country. He has served as the Minister of Economy and Finance, as well as the acting Prime Minister of Guinea-Bissau, following a military coup. Later, he was again appointed as the Prime Minister for one term.
Marking the International Day to Eliminate Racism through the Global Perspective Series at Parul University, organised in association with I.I.M.U.N., H.E. Rui Duarte de Barros touched on various topics like Racism, Social initiatives taken to eliminate discrimination and topics surrounding them. And most importantly, the session shed light on how the future generation perceives such prejudices and where the future relations of India and Africa lie.
“To be inclusive, you must use cultural diplomacy to understand where you are, where people are and how to solve problems, listen to the people and know their needs; a lot of problems will be solved,” said Rui Duarte de Barros, while addressing the students.
Adding to this, Dr. Devanshu Patel, President, Parul University, said, “ It has been an honour to host Rui Duarte de Barros and hear such strong thoughts on long-held prejudices. The world becomes more compassionate when these young minds come together and stand for inclusivity and progress beyond their differences.”
Global dialogue sessions like these contribute to Parul University's efforts in creating socially aware leaders, as well as building connections across national lines, creating a more tightly connected community.
