• Students with exceptionally good performance in the National Olympiads in Mathematics, Physics and Informatics are exempted from writing the BSc entrance examination.

• For CMI's PhD programmes, you can also qualify for the interview by writing national-level exams such as JEST and NBHM. Specific details are given below for Mathematics,  Computer Science, and Physics.

These include Berkeley, Caltech, Chicago, Cornell, Harvard, MIT, Penn,  Princeton, Stanford and Yale in USA, ENS-Paris, Univ Paris-Sud and Univ Bordeaux in France,  the Max Planck Institutes and Humboldt University in Germany and IITs, IISc, IMSc, ISI and TIFR in India. Several CMI alumni are now faculty members at leading academic institutions in India, including IISc, IISERs, IITs, IMSc, ISI, IIITs and TIFR, not to mention CMI itself.

The CMI Entrance Exam is a highly competitive exam that tests a candidate's aptitude for mathematics and computer science. The exam consists of two parts:

• Part A: This part of the exam is objective type, and it tests the candidate's knowledge of the fundamental concepts and principles of mathematics and computer science.
• Part B: This part of the exam is subjective type, and it tests the candidate's ability to apply the concepts and principles that they have learned to solve problems.

Students with exceptionally good performance in the National Olympiads in Mathematics and Physics conducted by HBSCE and the Indian Computing Olympiad conducted by IARCS are exempted from writing the BSc entrance examination.

Typically, the following categories of students qualify for direct admission:

• Students who have qualified for the International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC) or European Girls Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (EGMOTC) in Class 11 or Class 12.

• Students who have qualified for the Orientation Cum Selection Camp (OCSC) in Physics in Class 11 or Class 12.

• Students who have qualified for the International Olympiad in Informatics Training Camp (IOITC), or have received a gold or silver medal at the Indian National Olympiad in Informatics (INOI) in Class 11 or Class 12.

Chennai Mathematical Institute started the CMI application process on March 1, 2025. Candidates who are interested in getting admissions to the BSc and M.Sc courses in Mathematics and Computer Science can fill out the application form in the mentioned timeline.

The last date for filling out the CMI entrance exam application form 2025 will be April 15, 2025.

There are three BSc degree courses available at CMI institute:

• BSc in Mathematics
• BSc in Physics
• BSc in Computer Science

The combination that you can apply for depends on entrance examination that you have to chosen to write.

• If you have selected the MSc Mathematics entrance examination, you can apply to all three MSc programmes.

• If you have selected the MSc Computer Science entrance examination, you can apply to MSc Computer Science and MSc Data Science, but not to MSc Mathmatics.

• If you have selected the MSc Data Science entrance examination, you can only apply to MSc Data Science.

If you apply to multiple MSc programmes, you will be short-listed based on your performance in the exam that you write and called for an interview for the other programmes.

2. Click on this link, you will be directed to admit card login page and select the programme or course applied for
3. Enter the application number and password for the CMI entrance exam 2025
4. A new tab for admit card will appear in your applicant account. Click on this to proceed 
5. The admit card will appear on the screen mentioning the name, exam details, as well as test centre details and instructions 
6. Cross-check all the information before proceeding to download it, and if any information is found incorrect then report it to the exam authority at least three days before the exam day

•  The candidate must have passed Class 12 or an equivalent examination from a recognised board with Mathematics as one of the subjects.
