CMI Entrance Exam 2026 exam notification dates will be announced in February 2026. The CMI application form for 2026 will be available starting March 1, 2026, for admissions to the BS/MSc courses. CMI Entrance Exam 2025 entrance exam will be held on May 2, 2026, (2 pm onwards) at the respective exam centres across the nation. The CMI Entrance Exam Pattern 2025 is being designed in a paper-pencil-based mode (PBT) for 3 hours duration (MSc/PhD Mathematics and Computer Science) and three and a half hours (BSc/MSc Data Science) in 37 cities across India.

CMI 2026 exam results will likely to be announced in mid-June 2026. Candidates must check the merit list, and then the qualified ones will get the opportunity to attend the counselling process for the admissions. The CMI entrance exam 2026 counselling process is expected to start in the first week of July 2026.

What is CMI Entrance Exam?

CMI conducts a written entrance exam at national level for offering admissions in Bachelor of Science (BSc) courses in Mathematics, Computer Sciences, and Physics, and the Master of Science (MSc) in Mathematics, Computer Sciences, and Data Sciences. Entrance exam is conducted for a duration of three hours, wherein candidates have to solve and write answers in the space provided. CMI entrance exam pattern and syllabus are different for all courses. 


Main areas of research at CMI are Mathematics, Computer Science and Physics. In addition to a vibrant PhD programme, the Institute conducts BSc programmes in Mathematics and Computer Science, as well as Mathematics and Physics, along with MSc programmes in Mathematics, Applications of Mathematics and Computer Science.

Students with exceptionally good performance in the National Olympiads in Mathematics and Physics conducted by HBSCE and the Indian Computing Olympiad conducted by IARCS are exempted from writing the BSc entrance examination.

Typically, the following categories of students qualify for direct admission:

  • Students who have qualified for the International Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (IMOTC) or European Girls Mathematical Olympiad Training Camp (EGMOTC) in Class 11 or Class 12.

CMI Entrance Exam 2026 Admission Process

Candidates need to follow these tips to be admitted to the CMI:

Apply for CMI Exam 2026

  • To apply online, students need to go to webpage of CMI.
  • To apply in offline mode, students have to request for offline application from the institute. 

Download Admit Cards - Students who will submit their application forms along with the fee will have their CMI 2026 admit card issued in the fourth week of April 2026, tentatively. The admit card will have all the details of the candidate, test details, and the allotted exam centre.  

Appear for CMI Entrance Exam - Students have to appear for written entrance exam conducted by CMI at the allotted test centres on May 2, 2026. Students should reach the test centres at least an hour before exam timings. Moreover, they shall carry a valid photo ID proof along with the admit card. 

Result declaration and Selection Rounds - After results are declared, CMI will start interview rounds in Chennai to select students.

CMI Entrance Exam 2026 Application Form

The CMI Entrance Exam application forms will be released on March 1, 2026. It will be available in online mode only. Candidates have to register by entering their email ID. They will receive further instructions via email, including the username and password. Students need to log in and then fill application form with their personal and academic details, select a programme, exam centre, and upload the documents. The CMI 2026 application fee will be INR 1,000 and it will be paid through Credit/Debit Card, Net Banking or UPI.

CMI Entrance Exam 2026 Eligibility Criteria

 The candidates seeking admission to undergraduate and postgraduate courses at CMI should fulfil the eligibility criteria stated in the table below:

  • Candidates who have passed or appeared/are appearing for the Class 12 or an equivalent examination are eligible to apply.
  • There is no age limit for undergraduate courses. 
  • Candidates who have appeared for the National Science Olympiad and secured exceptionally good marks are exempted from appearing in the CMI entrance exam.
All PG courses
  • Candidates holding a Bachelor of Arts, BSc Mathematics, Bachelor of Statistics, Bachelor of Engineering, Bachelor of Technology or any bachelor's degree with the main subject as Mathematics are eligible to apply. 
  • Those who are appearing for the final year examination or are awaiting results are also eligible to apply.

CUET PG Exam Pattern will consist of 16 questions which will be of 100 marks and  the question paper will be divided into two parts. Part A would consist of 40 marks and Part B would consist 60 marks. The question paper of all undergraduate courses will carry weightage as under:
