HPU Shimla Highlights 2025
Himachal Pradesh University is private university and was established by an Act of the Legislative Assembly of Himachal Pradesh in 1970. HPU is recognised by UGC and NAAC. Also, HPU has a total of 7 institutes which include the Department of Evening Studies, HPU Business School, University Institute of Technology, HPU College of Business Studies, University Institute of Legal Studies, Institute of Tribal Studies, Institute of Vocational Studies. It has more than 300 affiliated and constituent colleges that together comprise 12 faculty and 18 specialised centres.
HPU offers more than 600 courses including UG, PG, Diploma, PG Diploma, PhD and certificate courses in full-time mode across multiple streams. Yes, HPU offers BTech/ BTech (Hons) Lateral Entry for three-years. Aspirants can apply for lateral entry in Information Technology, CSE, ECE, etc. Aspirants who have passed Class 12 with Physics and Mathematics as compulsory subjects along with other elective subjects with at least 50% aggregate (45% aggregate for SC/ ST) can apply for BTech (LE).
HPU Shimla accepts several entrance exams for various courses. The university also conducts in-house exams. Interested students must appear for the exams followed by the interview round. Accepted entrance exams include:

HPU Management Aptitude Test (HPU MAT) is conducted for admission to MBA programme of HPU Business School. HPU MAT question paper will consist of questions four sections viz., English Comprehension, Business Environment, General Knowledge and Reasoning and Numerical Skills. The General English part will have questions from Reading Comprehension, Verbal Reasoning and Verbal Ability. Reasoning and Numerical section will include questions from algebra, statistics, number systems, percenatges, profit and loss and so forth. No, candidates do not require passing an entrance exam for admission to BTech (lateral entry) at Himachal Pradesh University. Admission to BTech (LE) courses is based on merit of the aspirants in the last qualifying exam.
