HPU Shimla Highlights 2025
Himachal Pradesh University is private university and was established by an Act of the Legislative Assembly of Himachal Pradesh in 1970. HPU is recognised by UGC and NAAC. Also, HPU has a total of 7 institutes which include the Department of Evening Studies, HPU Business School, University Institute of Technology, HPU College of Business Studies, University Institute of Legal Studies, Institute of Tribal Studies, Institute of Vocational Studies. It has more than 300 affiliated and constituent colleges that together comprise 12 faculty and 18 specialised centres.

Yes, candidates need to complete a minimum of Class 12 to apply for HPU BA programme. Below is detailed eligibility:
- Candidates need to pass Class 12 or an equivalent exam in four written subjects (including English) with at least 33% aggregate or,
- Candidates seeking admission to BA with Mathematics as one of the subjects of study, should have either 45% marks in aggregate or 45% aggregate in Mathematics at Class 12.
- Aspirants who have completed pre-university examination (two years) or an examination recognised equivalent thereto (pass in four subjects, one language and three elective subjects) with 33% aggregate can apply.
- Candidates who have passed any examination of a University/ Board/ College or School in a foreign country recognised as equivalent with at least 33% aggregate or BA/ BSc/ BCom Part-I of the old three-year degree course can also apply.
- Aspirants who have completed Class 12 examination (academic stream) conducted by the HP Board of School Education (or in case of Shastri, pass in Prak Shastri from Sanskrit Colleges affiliated to the HPU) or an examination accepted as equivalent thereto by the various bodies of the HP University can also apply.

NTA released the re-revised scorecard on July 26, 2024. In this scorecard, the score has been revised as per the Supreme Court verdict of removing the bonus marks awarded earlier for the controversial Physics question, and deducting one mark from those who marked incorrect answer options. The city and centre-wise result data such as number of candidates appeared and scores obtained, by masking candidates' personal data was released on July 21, as per the Supreme Court order given on the hearing dated July 18, 2024. The NEET 2024 result for the re-exam, which was conducted on June 23, was declared on July 1, day day after the slated date. The final answer keys for the NEET 2024 re-exam was released by June 30, ahead of the result declaration. Earlier, the result of NEET 2024 was declared by NTA on June 4, 2024, 10 days ahead of the original schedule, which was June 14, 2024. NTA released the final NEET answer keys on June 4, prior to the release of the NEET result 2024. The NEET result was declared in an online mode. Candidates have to log in with their registration credentials or application number and date of birth, and download their scorecard in PDF format. Himachal Pradesh University maintains 13 hostels: 4 for boys and 9 for girls. These provide accommodations to approx. 972 girls and 567 boys students. All hostels have facilities of mess, internet connectivity through Wi-Fi and LAN, common room equipped with LED TV, current magazines, newspapers and Indoor games. Each hostel has a warden and office staff who are responsible for its smooth functioning and to carry out routine activities. Besides, all hostels are under CCTV surveillance 24x7.

In the first year of the BTech degree at HPU Shimla candidates go through the concepts that they've already studied in their Class 11 and Class 12. This is done so that students know the basics of the concepts that they're going to use during their time at the course. The first year also ensures that students coming from different boards are on the same level about necessary concepts required for engineering. Candidates wishing to apply for BAMS at Himachal Pradesh University need to complete at least Class 12 and qualify NEET exam. Below is detailed eligibility for HPU BAMS programme:
- Aspirants must have passed Class 12 or its equivalent exam with Physics, Chemistry, Biology which shall include a practical test in Science subjects & English individually and must have obtained minimum of 50% aggregate (40% aggregate for SC/ ST/ OBC) to apply for HPU BAMS.
- No candidate shall be admitted to BAMS Degree Course unless he/ she has attained the age of seventeen years on or before 31 December of the year of his/ her admission in the first year of the course and not more than of 25 years on or before the 31st December of the year of admission in the first year of the course.
Candidates need to pass Class 12 examination or equivalent with Physics, Mathematics and other elective subjects with at least 50% aggregate (45% aggregate for SC/ ST) to apply for HPU Shimla BTech/ BTech (Hons) programme.
Aspirants applying for BTech must not be more than 22 years in age as on July 1 of the year of admission.
Yes, HPU offers three-year BCom at the UG level through Department of Evening Studies. The BCom programme is divided into six semesters. Besides, the university also offers three-year BCom courses through various affiliated colleges. Candidates should have passed Class 12 or an equivalent exam to apply for HPU BCom programme.
Yes, HPU offers three-year BA at the UG level through Department of Evening Studies. The BA programme is divided into six semesters. Besides, the university also offers three-year BA and BA (Hons) courses through more than 150 affiliated colleges. HPU also offers BA programme in distance education mode through International Centre for Distance Education and Open Learning. Candidates should have passed Class 12 or an equivalent exam in four written subjects (including English) with at least 33% aggregate to apply for HPU BA programme.
HPU admission to BA programme is based on merit in the last qualifying exam. Once candidates register for the BA programme, HPU releases the merit list on the official website of the university. The merit list is prepared based on the marks of candidates in the qualifying exam.
