The Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU) is a government/public institute.  It was established by an Act of the Parliament of India, the Indira Gandhi National Tribal University Act, 2007, and came into existence in July 2008. As a central university, it is funded and administered by the Government of India through the Ministry of Human Resource Development (now known as the Ministry of Education). Its jurisdiction extends to the whole country. The university was established to promote education in the backward tribal regions of India. 

Indira Gandhi National Tribal University (IGNTU), Amarkantak was established on July 2008 by an Act of the Parliament of India and is fully funded by the Central Government. The university is recognised by the University Grants Commission (UGC). IGNTU courses include undergraduate (BA, B.Sc, B.Voc, B.Com, B.Ed, BBA, BCA, B.Pharm, D.Pharm) and postgraduate (MA, M.Sc., M.Com, MBA, MCA) programmes in various areas.

IGNTU offers MSc in various specialisations for the duration of 2 years in full-time mode. The University offers admission to the respective course on the basis of merit and valid scores of CUET PG. Candidates must meet the cutoff and qualify the counselling round to seek the final admission. Furthermore, the university offers MSc with an annual intake of 278 students. 

To qualify for admission to the MCA program at The Indira Gandhi National Tribal University candidates need a B.C.A., B.Sc. or B.A. degree in mathematics from a recognized Indian or international institution with at least 50% aggregate for General and OBC categories and 45% for SC/ST/PWD categories. They must also take the Common University Entrance Test (CUET-PG) conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA).
