Candidates applying through the CLAT entrance exams must first register for the CLAT examination. Then appear for the CLAT examination. Then check out the CLAT results and take part in the counselling round. Pay the admission fee in full at the selected and the allotted college/university. 

The Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law offers courses at UG, PG and doctoral levels. The university offers five-year integrated BA LLB (Hons), One-year LLM and a PG Diploma course. The university offers admission to the flagship course (BA LLB) based on CLAT score. The selection for PG Diploma is based on merit of the candidates in the last qualifying exam.

The NLU Patiala students have to undergo an internship at the end of each semester. The first-year students have to join NGOs for four weeks duration. Every year, the cut off marks for the CLAT exam are affected due to the following factors:

• The difficulty level of the exam. In case the question paper is easy then the CLAT cut offs are expected to go high and vice-versa.
• Total number of applications received. If the total applications received are less then the cut off is expected to be relaxed. 
• Total candidates qualifying CLAT exam. If the total number of qualifying candidates is less than the total seats then cut off goes low
• Total number of seats. If the total number of seats is revised and increased then cut off is expected to remain low
• Previous year cut offs. For the top NLUs, the cut-off marks in previous years were high, therefore, only topper candidates could make it for final admissions. Fore other NLUs, the cut off marks are relatively low. 

Rajiv Gandhi National University of Law Punjab offers UG, PG, and PhD courses to students. These courses are provided across the Law stream.
