Sikkim University Highlights 2025
Sikkim University is a central university established in 2007 under an Act of Parliament of India. It is located in Gangtok and is recognised by UGC. It has 10 affiliated colleges located in Sikkim. These colleges include institutions such as Damber Singh College, Government College Rhenock, and Namchi Government College, among others. The university also has a permanent campus at Yangang in the Namchi district. SU has collaborations with different institutions and organisations, including CABI E-UK, NIAISTBR, and the Indian Army for skill development.
The university offers courses at UG, PG and PG Diploma, PhD, and online levels. Sikkim University popular courses include BA, BPA, MA, MSc, MCom, MBA, and MCA. Sikkim University admission is both entrance and merit-based. Further for admission UG programmes students are required to apply and appear for the entrance exams accepted by university such as CUET or any state-level entrance test or national-level entrance test.
The placement drive for the 2024 season at Central Agricultural University has ended, but the placement report is still pending but NIRF report for 2025 has been published. A total of 189 students achieved placements during Central Agricultural University placements 2024. Out of which, 56 belonged to UG 4-year. Sikkim University, Gangtok offers several scholarships omit it at the UG and PG levels, which are based on the financial situation of the students or their academic performances. Sikkim University takes applications from the deserving UG and PG students for merit-cum-means scholarship in the prescribed format. Meritorious students who have secured 55% (50% for SC, ST, and OBC) in qualifying examination/ overall percentage of previous semesters as the case may be (50% for renewal cases) with an average family income of less than INR 60,000/- per annum and receiving no other scholarship/ financial assistance from any other source are eligible to apply. Students may apply in the prescribed format along with the parents’ income certificate (certificate issued by any officer, not below the rank of BDO/ Tahsildar). The fellowship will be awarded under the following category:
- Fellowship: INR 3,000 per month.
- Freeship: Full tuition fee and laboratory fee waiver.
- Half Freeship: 50% tuition fee and laboratory fee waiver.

- Central Library: The Sikkim University library is known as Teesta-Indus Central Library. It includes quality books, journals and magazines of national and international level. It is situated within Sikkim University and spans over 9,000 square feet, with the capacity to house approximately 70,000 books.
- Hostel: 8 seperate hostels for boys and girls are equipped with water purifiers, common rooms, recreation rooms, mess, TV, laundry services, security, and surveillance systems. Staying in the university's hostels is mandatory for outstation students.
- Health Centre: Sikkim University offers medical facilities to all its students, teaching and non-teaching staff. Charak Health center is four bedded units 2 for male and 2 female, 2 OPDs, Procedure room, central store and dispensary. This is manned by the Chief Medical Officer, Senior Medical Officer, 2 Staff nurses, Nursing Attendant, Pharmacist, MTS and Ambulance Driver.
- Gymnasium: The university is fully equipped and open 6 days a week for students and staff. The gym has different shifts that have been maintained for male and female users. There are respective gender trainers in the gym to monitor and provide continuous supervision to the gym members. The university provides free bus service to its students at fixed intervals.

Sikkim University is building a world-class campus on a plot of land measuring 300 acres at Yangang in the South District of Sikkim and located 56 kilometers from Gangtok. The Government of Sikkim handed over a major portion of land for the purpose and the former President of India, Shri Pranab Mukherjee, in his capacity as the Visitor of the university, laid the foundation stone of the campus on April 16, 2013 in the august presence of the Governor and the Chief Minister of Sikkim.
