CUET Anthropology Syllabus

The National Testing Agency (NTA) released the CUET Anthropology syllabus 2026. The candidates can access the same online at cuet.nta.nic.in. We have also provided the CUET syllabus 2026 for Anthropology in PDF and in table format on this page. NTA has made a few changes in the CUET Anthropology syllabus 2026 as compared to last year's. The students must remember that the topics included in the CUET Anthropology Syllabus are taught in class 12. To gather more insights for the CUET 2026, candidates must refer to the previous years’ question papers to know the chapter-wise weightage, topics, and question types. 

CUET UG 2026 exams will be held between May 11 and May 31, 2026, in CBT mode. CUET UG offers 36 domain subjects. This page brings the complete syllabus for CUET Anthropology.

Q:   Does the CUET syllabus also include chapters from Class 11?
A: 

No, class 11th subject syllabus is not included in CUET UG exam. Students who are preparing for CUET 2026 exam must focus on class 12th NCERT curriculum. NTA prescribes the CUET UG syllabus on its official website. Candidates must be familar the detailed syllabus mentioned on the NTA CUET official website- cuet.nta.nic.in. However, for better concepts clarity, candidates may refer to the class 11th resources.

NTA CUET 2026 exam will be scheduled in May/June 2026 tentatively. Candidates preparing for board examinations must prepare well for the CUET exam along.

Q:   Is CUET syllabus based on CBSE syllabus?
A: 

No, CUET syllabus is not based on CBSE syllabus as claimed by Education Ministry in Rajya Sabha. The CUET exam is designed to assess the general understandig of the candidate in subjects he/she has opted for. CUET UG is on of the biggest UG entrance exam carnival conducted for admission in cebtral, state, private and deemed universities.

Candidates preparing for CUET UG exam must check the detailed CUET syllabus and CUET question paper to become familiar with the important topics and type of questions asked in the exam.  

Q:   What is the CUET UG syllabus for general test?
A: 

CUET UG general test will cover the topics from the following:

  • General Knowledge, Current Affairs
  • General mental ability, Numerical ability
  • Reasoning (Simple application of basic Mathematical concepts, quantitative arithmetic, algebra geometry, mensuration and statistics)
  • Logical and analytical reasoning

Candidates preparing for the general test of CUET UG are advised to stay updated with the current affairs by reading the newspapers and magazines. Candidates must gather study materials to prepare for the syllabus of General test and practice ample questions to become familiar with the type of questions asked in this section. Q:   What is the difficulty level of the CUET exam?
A: 

The difficulty level of the CUET exam varies between moderate and tough. Since the CUET UG exam is held for multiple subjects and slots, the difficulty level of the exam varies from subject to subject. Sometimes, the difficulty level may also vary for different slots. While for the well-prepared candidates, the difficulty level will be low, for the underprepared students, the level of difficulty will be on the higher side.

  • Human Evolution: Theories of evolution (Darwinism, Lamarckism, Neo-Darwinism and NeoLamarckism); Living Primates and their features. Hominid evolution: Australopithecus, Homo habilis, Homo erectus, Homo sapiens neanderthalensis, and other Homo sapiens
  • Human Variation (Body size, Body shape, Skin color, Genetic traits).
  • Human Genetics: Mendelian Genetics (Laws of Inheritance), Dominant, recessive, sex-linked, sexlimited and sex-influenced traits. Monogenic, polygenic and multifactorial inheritance. Chromosomes and their aberrations.
  • Forces of Evolution, Genetic Drift, Mutation, Natural Selection and Gene flow.
  • Genetic Markers: Blood Groups (ABO, MN, Rh(D) and their distribution), DNA as a geneticmarker in population diversity.

Archaeological Anthropology

  • Stone Age: Paleolithic, Mesolithic, Neolithic Cultures.
  • Development of tool typology and technology. Evolution of stone tool technology: Choppers, Hand Axes, scrapers, Blade Tools Microliths, celts unifacial and bifacial tools, Pottery.
  • Metal Age: Discovery and use of Bronze and Iron.
  • Stratigraphy, Archeological dating (Dating of sites and materials with relative and absolute (carbon 14 and potassium-argon dating methods).
  • Important Archaeological Sites (Sohan, Burzahom and Nevasa; Indus Valley Civilization.

Socio-Cultural Anthropology

  • Family types (Nuclear, Joint, Extended) and their Functions; Marriage: Cultural variation in forms of Marriage (Monogamy, Polygamy); Kinship: rules of Descent (Matrilineal, Patrilineal).
  • Concepts of Culture: Cultural Relativism, Ethnocentrism; Socialization and Cultural Change (Diffusion, Acculturation).
  • Functions of religion in Society; Beliefs: Totemism, Animism, Animatism, Magic, and Shamanism.
  • Subsistence Strategies: Hunting, Gathering and Agricultural practices.
  • Traditional Political Systems: Bands, Tribes, Chiefdoms; Power, Authority, and Social Control in Traditional Societies

Linguistic & Tribal Anthropology

  • Language as a Cultural and Social Phenomenon.
  • Linguistic and Cultural Diversity in India (festivals, house types, rituals and food habits)
  • Distribution and Characteristics of Tribes in India: Economic, Social, and Political Organization.
  • Major Indian Tribes (Santhals, Bhils, Gonds, etc.), Particularly Vulnerable Tribal Groups (PVTGs).

Q:   Has NTA announced CUET exam date 2026?
A: 

Yes, National Testing Agency has announced the CUET UG 2026 exam date. As per NTA official notification, CUET 2026 exam will be held till June 6/7. CUET registration 2026 process has concluded at cuet.nta.nic.in. Candidates seeking admission to UG courses through CUET score must stay updated with the CUET exam dates 2026.

Q:   What is the structure of CUET UG Science examination?
A: 

CUET UG exam structure for Science examination is similar to other streams subject. NTA prescribes the common exam pattern for CUET subjects. As per the notification, each CUET subject will follow below structure:

  • Number of questions: 50 Multiple Choice Questions
  • Optional questions: Not provided
  • Duration: 60 minutes
  • Marking for correct answer: 5 marks
  • Negative marking: -1 mark
Q:   What is the total score in CUET UG?
A: 

CUET UG total marks is 250 Marks for each subject. Candidates can choose up to five CUET subjects. Each subject paper has 50 questions which will total to 250 marks for each subject. For every correct answer, candidate will get 5 marks. The CUET total marks will be uniform for all 37 subjects. The Total CUET subjects marks can vary depending on the number of subjects chosen by candidates.

  • If three CUET subjects chosen: 750 total marks
  • If four CUET subjects chosen: 1000 total marks
  • If five CUET subjects chosen: 1250 total marks
Q:   How many subjects can a candidate choose in CUET UG while filling the application form?
A: 

The numbers for choosing CUET subjects are five out of the 37 options available.

No, CUET is not compulsory to get admission in Dr. D Y Patil Arts, Commerce and Science College in Pune. Admission into the UG and PG courses are offered based on merit in last qualifyiing exam.
