CUET Anthropology Syllabus

CUET Anthropology Syllabus 2026: The National Testing Agency (NTA) will soon release the CUET Anthropology syllabus 2026. Once released, the candidates can access the same online on the official website of NTA at at https://cuet.nta.nic.in/syllabus/. We also provide the CUET syllabus 2026 for Anthropology in PDF and in table format on this page. The chances of any major changes in the CUET Anthropology syllabus 2026 is very less. The students must remember that the topics included in the CUET Anthropology Syllabus are taught in class 12. To gather more insights for the CUET 2026, candidates must refer to the previous years’ question papers to know the chapter-wise weightage, topics, and question types. 

NTA conducts the Common University Entrance Test (CUET) to offer admission to various UG-level courses in all central universities and other participating institutes in India. Students seeking admission through the CUET UG 2026 exam must be well-prepared for the exam. For better preparation for the Anthropology exam, the students must go through the entire CUET Anthropology Syllabus and cover the entire topics included in it. CUET UG 2026 exams are likely to be held in May and June 2026, in CBT mode. NTA will soon announce a detailed CUET date sheet for the 2026 exams. There will be no fixed dates for all subjects; each subject exam will be held in multiple slots and dates.

CUET Anthropology Syllabus

Physical Anthropology

Preliminary knowledge of Human genetics. Mendel’s Laws of Heredity Monohybrid and Dihybrid ratio.

Definition of Race and Racial criteria, the significance of skin color, Eye form and color, Head form, and ABa blood groups as racial criteria.

Racial classification, distinctive physical features, and geographical distribution of the major racial groups of men: Caucasoid, Mongoloid, Negroid, and Australoid.

Unit-2

Prehistoric Archaeology

Tool Making: Techniques of manufacturing core and flake tools, primary and secondary flaking, pressure flaking, grinding, and polishing. Materials used in making prehistoric tools.

Tool families: Pebble tools, Handaxe, Cleaver, Scrapers, Microliths, Points, Blades, Awl, Graver, Celts, Sickles, Spearhead, Arrow-head, and Bone tools.

Prehistoric Cultures: A brief outline of the following prehistoric cultures of the Paleolithic, Mesolithic, and Neolithic periods-

A comparative study of the salient features of Paleolithic and Neolithic cultures.

Unit-3

Material culture and economic Anthropology

Economic life: meaning and aspects, characteristic features of the primitive or simple economic system.

Subsistence economy: domestication of animals-pastoralism, agriculture-shifting cultivation, horticulture, terrace cultivation, and plough cultivation.

A brief outline of the methods of hunting, fishing, and agriculture with reference to Various communities of North East India as far as practicable.

Unit-4

Social Anthropology and Ethnography

A: Social Anthropology :

Family: Definition, forms, and types: nuclear family, joint family, a family of orientation, family of procreation, monogamous and polygamous (polygynous and polyandrous).

Clustered relationship in a nuclear family.

Rules of residence: Patrilocal, matrilocal, neolocal, avancolocal, bi - local, matripatri local.
Rules of descent: Patrilineal and matrilineal descent.

Functions of family, social nature of family.

B: Ethnography :

A brief outline of the land and people of North-East India.

Study of material culture and economic life of the following communities

The Garo: Shifting or Jhum cultivation.

The Mishing: Plough cultivation

A study of the social organization of the Ao Naga and the Apatani.

Unit-5

Ecology

Meaning and definition of ecology and environment.

Elements of the environment: Solid, liquid, and gas.

Physical or abiotic environment, biological or biotic environment, and socio-cultural environment.

Man is the main agent to disturb the ecological balance.

Q:   What is the CUET marking scheme?
A:

NTA prescribes the CUET UG marking scheme. Check below to know the CUET UG marking scheme 2026:

  • Correct answer or the most appropriate answer: Five marks (+5)
  • Any incorrect option marked will be given minus one mark (-1).
  • Unanswered/Marked for Review will be given no mark (0).
  • If more than one option is found to be correct then Five marks (+5) will be awarded to only those who have marked any of the correct options.
  • If all options are found to be correct then Five marks (+5) will be awarded to all those who have attempted the question.
  • If none of the options is found correct or a question is found to be wrong or a question is dropped, then all candidates who have attempted the dropped question will be given five marks (+5) marks.
Q:   Is there a negative marking in CUET?
A:

Yes. There is a negative marking in the CUET exam. For each wrong answer, one mark is deducted. Negative marking will not be applicable in case of unattempted questions. The marking scheme as per NTA is given below.

i. Correct answer or the most appropriate answer: Five marks (+5)
ii. Any incorrect option marked will be given minus one mark (-1).
iii. Unanswered/Marked for Review will be given no mark (0).
iv. If more than one option is found to be correct then Five marks (+5) will be awarded to only those who have marked any of the correct options.
v. If all options are found to be correct then Five marks (+5) will be awarded to all those who have attempted the question.

vi. If none of the options is found correct or a question is found to be wrong or a question is dropped, then all candidates who have attempted the dropped question will be given five marks (+5) marks.

Q:   Which subjects have been removed in CUET UG?
A:

UGC has announced the deletion of 26 subjects from CUET UG 2025 onwards. CUET UG 20 foreign languages and six domain subjects have been removed. Check the list below to know the name of the subjects:

  • Foreign Languages (French, Spanish, German, Nepali, Persian, Italian, Arabic, Sindhi, Kashmiri, Konkani, Bodo, Dogri, Maithili, Manipuri, Santhali, Sanskrit, Tibetan, Japanese, Russian, Chinese)
  • Domain Subjetcs (Entrepreneurship, Teaching Aptitude, Fashion Studies, Tourism, Legal Studies, Engineering Graphics)

CUET 2026 Exam Pattern

For better preparation of CUET 2026, the students must be aware of the CUET exam pattern. It will help students know the type of questions asked, level of questions, total number of questions, the marking scheme, and more. In the first section, the Language Skills of candidates will be tested through Reading Comprehension passage questions. In the second section, the questions will be asked based on the subject opted for and the third section is GK, Current Affairs, Mathematics, and Logical and Analytical Reasoning. Candidates can check the CUET 2026 exam pattern below.

Aspirants with a CUET-UG score can get admission in UG courses. However, it is not mandatory to have a CUET score for admission. Candidates with a valid score in SAT, ACT or KREA Aptitude Test are also offered admission. The university opens admission separately for CUET qualified candidates.

With your score, it’s quite difficult to get a seat even in 2nd or 3rd round in most central or good universities. But it’s not impossible, you may still get a seat in less competitive colleges or courses where seats are vacant. Keep checking the cutoff lists and spot rounds.

Your score is on the lower side for top central universities like DU, BHU, or JNU, especially for Science courses.

But you can still apply to some central, state, and private universities that accept CUET scores and have lower cutoffs.
