Q: How can I get a scholarship at Sikkim University?

Sikkim University takes applications from the deserving UG and PG students for merit-cum-means scholarship in the prescribed format. Meritorious students who have secured 55% (50% for SC, ST, and OBC) in qualifying examination/ overall percentage of previous semesters as the case may be (50% for renewal cases) with an average family income of less than INR 60,000/- per annum and receiving no other scholarship/ financial assistance from any other source are eligible to apply. Students may apply in the prescribed format along with the parents’ income certificate (certificate issued by any officer, not below the rank of BDO/ Tahsildar). The fellowship will be awarded under the following category:

Fellowship: INR 3,000 per month.
Freeship: Full tuition fee and laboratory fee waiver.
Half Freeship: 50% tuition fee and laboratory fee waiver.

It provides good placement for students.

Placements: Approximately 18-20% of UG students get placed. The highest package offered for the course is not officially disclosed for economics, but for UG programs overall, it is 3.5 LPA. Specific recruiters for economics are not listed, so local organisations like NGOs and educational institutions are dependent on them. 10-14% of students secure independent internships. Common roles offered in this course are research assistant, teaching assistant, or content writer.

Nice environment and culture, surrounded by helpful and polite people.

Placements: Placements were not much guaranteed here unless you were in a professional course. The city also had less opportunities for exposure internships in various domains. You were pretty much on your own if you were expecting placements from this institute.

Infrastructure: Classrooms and departments were spread over the entire city of Gangtok, making it quite inconvenient to travel across the city to reach any part of the university. It lacks a well-constructed campus life. Hostels were just fine with all essential amenities provided.

Faculty: Faculty members were great. However, most of them had left now so I couldn't say much about the present scenario. The exam patterns and structure were very easy. You will get 50 marks from internals and 50 from finals which makes it easier to score good CGPA. It was hard to fail here.

Really good infrastructure with hardworking faculty members.

Placements: There are no internships and placements in my college. It provides the best knowledge, so I preferred this college. In terms of internship, it is back.

Infrastructure: Facilities are perfect. There are more than 2,200 books in the library. The food available in the canteen is hygienic. There are a lot of opportunities in games and sports. Labs are clean and provide various facilities. The library is very big so that every student can read books without any disturbances. The infrastructure is also well-developed. Overall, everything is perfect.

Faculty: Teachers are quite hardworking. There are well-qualified teachers in my college. The teaching quality is the best. Teachers try their best to provide beneficial knowledge to us. Exams are quite difficult but if we study hard, we can get good results. It is upon us to prepare hard and study well.

Other: I chose this course because since I was small, economics has been my all-time favourite subject. I am very interested in that. All things including infrastructure, etc., are well-developed.

My college review, all the best.

Placements: Sadly, there is no placement available at our university. But you can apply to other Sikkimese universities, which are private, and they can give you placements. But the skills you'll be learning throughout the journey will not upset you at the end; these will bring a lot of opportunities in the future.

Infrastructure: Yes, there are labs and Wi-Fi facilities as well. There are many department classrooms in our SU, and the library is a plus point there. The hostel facility is also quite good, as my friends never complain about the mess food, but the water scarcity is a major problem here in the state.

Faculty: Our psychology professors are very smart, to be honest. Compared to other faculty members, they are young, so their teaching methods are very advanced and highly acknowledged. The semester exams are divided into 3 stages. For example, in one semester, we have to give 3 exams. The first term is totally based on writing (25 marks), and the second term is based on assignments and presentations. The third term is written, which carries 50 marks, and in the end, we need to score 33 to pass.

Other: I chose psychology because I want to become a psychologist. Ever since I was in 9th grade, my school counselor has inspired me a lot. And you can also choose a course since its so diverse and the professors who will be guiding you through this journey are amazing. Yes, college life is a bit hectic, but this festival season will boost your interest. We also have 3 other clubs, so students don't feel bored. The theater club, the NSS club, and the NCC club.

Most important our college dean is not good he does't know anything I don't know how he becomes OU.

Placements: Our senior are placed in big metro cities. They are paying with high prices. The companies like Infosys, Indian Air force, Indigo Airlines etc. We offer with different posts like a manager, supervisor, marketing manager etc. 40 to 50% of students got the internship from college. The highest rate of placements are 90%, and the lowest is 50%.

Infrastructure: We have many facilities in our college like Wi-Fi, labs, and the classrooms are big, library, medical facilities, sports games and many more that are available on our campus. They provide cheap quality food in our college canteen. Hostel rooms are also good they are big, and in one room 4 people can stay.

Faculty: Our college faculty members are well-qualified and knowledgeable. They are also very helpful in our college issues and personal problems. The teaching quality is somewhat good and somewhat bad. The ratio of faculty members is like in one department we have 4 faculty members.

Other: In our college, every year there were many events organised. Every year college fests are also conducted.

Absolutely satisfied with faculty members. The infrastructure is good.

Placements: Our college currently offers the course to 250 students. Since it is a government college that runs honours courses, it hardly provides any placement packages. But, you will get a recognized degree that will help you later in getting jobs.

Infrastructure: Our campus provides Wi-Fi facility in every classroom and the library. The canteen serves good food and offers opportunities to take part in sports.

Faculty: Faculty members here are very efficient and helpful towards students. They give you ample knowledge and insight. Exams are very challenging, but if you spend time studying, you will easily get through them. They will make you ready.

Other: I chose the Political Science course because it helps me prepare for competitive exams, which will lead to reputable jobs in the future. The best thing about this course is that it provides a lot of knowledge about economics, international relations, law and order of the country, and much more. Our campus also hosts many events and festivals that promote local agendas and our cultural heritage. The best thing about this college is that you will never get bored of studying because of the serene nature and environment. They organize competitions where every department has to participate, and they reward winners with prizes. They facilitate us in every possible way.
