Review of St. Xavier's College of Kolkata.
Placements: Approximately 65 percent of students were placed in our college, with the highest package of 8.6 LPA per annum and the lowest salary package of 3 LPA per annum. Expected companies like Wipro and TCS are visiting our college. Top roles offered are data analyst, teacher job, computer developer, etc. Several students have even received high placement offers. There are various programs for B.Com students where several different guests visit; these guests are usually startup owners, small business owners, or even entrepreneurs. They give lectures about their journey and organize engagement sessions with the audience.
Infrastructure: The hostel timeline is not too good, nor is the food. The seniors in the hostel try to rule over the juniors like bosses. Students of the third year are capable of utilizing the facilities of the placement cell, whereas second years are only allowed to receive guidance. With practically everything maintained and cared for, there is nothing wrong with the college layout. Classrooms and labs are also first-rate. The college has two basketball courts, one volleyball court, and two cafeterias. The fisheries department has one storage tank and a 200-capacity auditorium.
Faculty: The teachers are genuinely caring and very helpful to the students anytime we need their support. Teachers are very motivating and also give the best quality teaching, which would not require getting separate tuition. Teachers always keep on tracking our progress, which is the best quality of the teacher here. Nevertheless, the college has excellent faculty. Semester exams are easy, and the pass rate is 78%. The teachers are well-qualified, but some dedicate their time to teaching us, while others just teach for the sake of it. And we can still reappear next year if we can't clear our papers.
Other: I chose this course as it would help me learn a lot of things regarding finance and accounting and it doesn't stick to one particular subject but teaches us different subjects per semester. Campus life is really good. There are various events happening in and around the college when there are no exams, and the college organizes a week for students with themes; this event is known as College Week and is a popular event among all the students and colleges in Kolkata.

Almost 90% of students got placed with good job roles in different well known companies.
Placements: Almost 90% of students got placed with good job roles in different well known companies. Placements were good enough considering it to be the first year and first batch of the MBA programme. Almost all students got internship opportunities from the batch of 2019.
Infrastructure: Free Wi-Fi is available along with centrally air conditioned classrooms and Library full of books for different subjects. The classrooms are airy and spacious. The hostel facility is also good enough and so is the mess facility. There is a huge ground and a basketball court too.
Faculty: The teachers are helpful and try to clear doubts as much as possible. The course curriculum is totally relevant and is something that is taught in all other top Schools, seminars are also organised every now and then for a better understanding of the corporate world.
Other: The course is good enough but the course fee is I feel a bit high so not very much sure about the ROI. But it is a good college to join in.

Great Campus life, Friendly Faculty, Good placement.
Placements: 80% of the batch got placed. Average package was 6LPA. Deloitte, Earnest and Young and PWC are the top recruiters. 100% of students got summer internship. The placement officer is very helpful as well, ITC has selected students for live project from our campus.
Infrastructure: We have a basketball court, a volleyball court, a football field, badminton court and TT room. There is student Wi-Fi also in the Hostel. Food is good, not excellent, can't compare to restaurants but there's no reason to complain. We have medical facilities available in the academic buildings Infirmary.
Faculty: Faculty is very friendly and approachable, we have well qualified and experienced faculty members. We have internationally trained faculty as well. The curriculum is prepared according to the requirements of the industry. Surprise tests and quizzes prepare the students to face corporate pressure.
Other: We have a weekly interaction seminar with industry experts. This is very helpful to the students as we are kept aware of the trends and skills needed in the industry. We have 2 fests in our department, Xaviesta and Corpniti. These fests help us to practically carry out our managerial learnings as we learn to work with various teams and target setting and meeting. We have many committees that students can be part of as well in order to pursue their other interests while studying; like Cultural committee, Sports committee, Debating Committee and so on.

Overall package for MBA. Satisfied with all the opportunities that are provided here.
Placements: 88% of the total batch have been placed until now. The highest package is 12 LPA. Average salary is 6.5 LPA. Deloitte, Ernst & Young (EY), Dabur and many more companies came for placements and internships. 100% placements where there for internship.
Infrastructure: All the facilities like Wi-Fi, labs, classrooms, library are available. Hostels are well maintained and mess food is also good. We have Canteen and we also have medical assistance. There are numerous sports that are offered in the campus like basketball, football, TT, volleyball etc.
Faculty: Teachers are well qualified and are cooperative as well as supportive. Our curriculum is more based on case studies and on the application of such studies. Our course is closely designed with respect to the industries and we also have facilities from the industries.
Other: There are various fests that take place in the campus but the college particularly host its own Inter B School fest known as XAVIESTA.

XBS- a walk through the paths of success.
Placements: The placement drive for 2020 was very good. Top-notch companies like PwC, Delloite, HDFC Bank, Philips, Goodricke and others came to the campus to recruit students. Internships are offered in companies like Delloite, HDFC Bank, Kellogs, Future Retail, DVC for various job roles.
Infrastructure: 24 hrs Wi-Fi is available, even in the hostel rooms for each student. The rooms are spacious and very good. The food provided by the mess is good and the menu is changed at regular intervals by the mess committee. The hostel committee arranges for various events at different intervals of time for all the hostel students.
Faculty: The course curriculum is very much relevant to the needs of the job market. The professors are highly qualified with a detailed knowledge of various domains. They are always there to help all the students in any doubts. We also have regular mentor-mentee meeting to discuss about the various problems that we might face.
Other: Various departmental fests are organized. Xaviesta, Xavrang has been highly successful. The Xaverian tag is something which we can always go back to.

Good, but a long way to go to be in the same bracket as top XAMI B Schools.
Placements: All the students are placed unless you're in HR or you are very poor at cracking interviews. Average placement package is just above 5 LPA. HDFC, PwC, E&Y, Delloite, Berger, Adani, Godrej, Dabur, Philips, HDFC Life, Bajaj Allianz, TCS are some of the big brands that came. There were other 10-15 startups as well that came like Jaro Education, Lido Learning, Buyer Foresight etc. The roles offered to Finance students by HDFC and PwC are great. The startups offer better packages than the bigger brands. The salary offers of bigger brands is quite low in comparison. All placements are within the city or in the outskirts. Top companies visit for Internships but it is unpaid. Overall placements are good. But a bit low with 12-13 Lacs in GBS, IISWBM, Army Institute of Management, IBS, Heritage and other standard B Schools etc. The average package is slightly higher at around 6 LPA for a much lower fees.
Infrastructure: The amphitheaters are great. MBA department has its own amphitheater. The gallery style classrooms should also be offered to second year students. The computer labs are state of the art. There is a MAC lab, which the MBA students aren't allowed to use. The academic building and it's infrastructure all in all is very good. But the problem lies within the hostel which is compulsory. There's no AC, so it's unbearable in the summers. The hostels being exposed to jungles at the back has insects entering all the time, which the college hasn't yet addressed. There is a Wi-Fi in the hostel but it's speed is as good as dial-up connections of the 90s, so one cannot use it. The rules and regulations in the hostel are too much for postgraduate students. The atmosphere is not right for group study. Too much intervention from the authorities all the time. You get punished for acts you did not commit. Heavy fines are charged. However, the hostel is peaceful, although not good for MBA.
Faculty: Most of the faculty members are really kind and helpful. They help students to the best of their ability. However, more professors should be hired. Too many guest faculty members are there, some of whom do not really care and they are there to fill their pockets and do not have the students' interests in their minds. While marketing has 4 professors now, HR has 3, the entire Finance dept. has one permanent professor for the last 6 months. These things should change.
Other: Although Operations and Systems is available as a specialisation it is not offered. In my opinion, it should be offered as there are plenty of jobs available in Operations, while it's very difficult to place the HR students. There is a rule that 10 students are needed to float a specialisation and this rule should be removed. 5-6 students should not have to opt for another stream which is not their priority because the department can't get 10 students to float a stream. Also, if this rule exists, students must be made aware during admission. In our next batch as many as 6-7 were interested to take Operations but they couldn't and had to settle for other streams. In our following batch more than twenty students have opted for HR and now the college is discouraging them to take HR because they cant place so many HRs. While it's true that it is impossible to place so many HR students given the lack of jobs, these rules must be made crystal clear while admitting the students. Throwing rules and regulations after admission is not fair. According to UGC 75% attendance is the criteria. But the college has gone ahead and made 85% their attendance criteria, failing which the students have to pay condonation fees. The campus is in New Town so there is nothing around. There's no stationery shops nearby, there's no xerox shop nearby, there's no cyber cafe nearby, no saloon, no pharmacies, nothing. The stationary shop of the college thus charges abnormally high rates. The college should look into these matters since they have made a residential course. The localities are extremely disheartened by the fact that living in the hostel is compulsory. Some have their flats next door and yet they have to withstand the hostel life which is not like the hostel-life stories you get to hear. It's extremely mundane, drab, monotonous, uncomfortable and cringeworthy. We can't wait for the torture to end by the end of this month.

This college is not at all worth the fees. Hostel life is pathetic.
Placements: Advantages of our college are placements have been quite good. Companies like E&Y, Deloitte, PwC, HDFC, Godrej, Philips, Adani Wilmar, Berger, etc., recruited students from our college. Dabur and Kellogg's offered PPOs to students. Our placement cell and professors did a great job to make students get placed. But there are some advantages like some of the salary packages offered are very low. Some marketing students have been recruited for insurance sales jobs, which any 12th standard passed out student can do. If you do an MBA, then you are on the payroll. But for good salary packages, they will charge 12 lacs-13 lacs, which are unfair. Similar placements are offered by our college, i.e., they offer placements with a salary package of 6 LPA-8 LPA in West Bengal and Calcutta. Our college did not do any market research before setting their fees, or they thought they could exploit using its reputation. Almost none of the students got placed outside West Bengal, and the salary package doesn't exceed 7 LPA-8 LPA. Colleges which charge 12 lacs in Mumbai, Bangalore, Delhi, Chennai and Hyderabad will offer better placements. If you get internships from college, you cannot opt-out if you can even arrange on your own. The placement cell starts blackmail you that it would remove you from final placements. This rule has been introduced this year for our juniors. Almost 99% of the internships offered are unpaid.
Infrastructure: MBA is a residential course, so it is mandatory to stay in the hostel. But, the university is running a boarding school for 5th class students in the name of the university. They build the hostels to impose heavy discipline. MBA students have to prepare, study, create presentations, dissertations and assignments for which they need to be proactive and work together. In the hostel, if you are not within your room by 10:30 PM, then you have to pay a fine of Rs. 200, Rs. 500 and Rs. 1,000. They will give more importance to maintaining discipline than the MBA curriculum and its demand. Fathers and sisters seek for opportunities to charge fines for petty reasons. The hostel is as good is terrific to stay. Hostels have a Wi-Fi facility, but it doesn't work. We never got access to the internet in these two years. Though we complained about it to the authority, they didn't care. But if you talk loudly on the 4th floor, brothers and sisters listen and impose fines. The atmosphere is perfect for a boarding school, which is willing to discipline children and teenagers but not for people who have an age of above 20, some of whom have work experiences. The hostel experience is the worst thing about this course. Despite having high hostel fees, you are not allowed to use any electrical gadget other than a laptop and cellphone charger. If you have a kettle or a hairdryer or iron, they will charge you fine. There are no air-conditioners in the hostel so that it is difficult to stay in summers. Fathers say that they don't support air-conditioners due to environmental issues, but in their own residence, all the rooms air-conditioners. The food served in the mess was moderate in the early days, but due to many protests, a new mess committee was formed. Things have improved drastically since then. The gallery-style classrooms are provided only for the first-year students, while from the second year, you have to sit in school like wooden chairs, which is extremely uncomfortable.
Faculty: Faculty members are probably the best thing about our department. Every faculty member, dean mam and the staff members working in the MBA department are amazing human beings. If you need any help, they are available for you. The department is like a family, and everyone maintains a great bond. The course curriculum is designed by industry stalwarts, and it always changes as per the need of the industry. The course curriculum is extremely rigorous and advanced. Industry professionals visit our campus and organise seminars every now and then. Faculty members are good, but the administration is very bad. They treat MBA students like their customers, and their attitude towards students in the hostel is pathetic.
Other: Our college organises events throughout the year. It organised a fest named Xaviesta for the first time in 2019 and got a great response from all over the city. Our department represents the college in sports, debates, quizzes, etc. We started our own interdepartmental business fest named Corpniti from 2020, which was organised in the first year. Students in our department participate in prestigious business fests organised all over the city and always wins. The MBA course should have its own social media page and its own network. We try hard to improve these issues, but the administration running our college is very arrogant and not flexible at all. It won't allow any intervention. We created our own FB page, but we were informed to remove it, and even we are not allowed to have our Linkedin page. I suggest students should join in this college if they are very rich, can bear the expenses and has a family business to opt for if you don't get a decent job. If you don't want to save money, take a loan and study, then it is not a place for you. After paying the fees, and paying the EMI, you won't get anything. So, it is better to study harder for CAT and XAT rather wasting time by joining here. The hostel is very bad, so it's your choice to stay in it.
