My review of this college.
Placements: The placement cell of St Xavier's University, Kolkata, creates a platform where students can showcase their talents. Different companies seek to explore and utilise them. Companies like Deloitte, KPMG, NestleD, Amazon, HDFC Bank, BookMyShow, Britannia, Pepsico, and other various companies come for campus placements. The average package offered ranges from 4-5 LPA, and the highest package is 25 LPA. All interested students can apply to companies they wish to get jobs through the placement cell. They provide us with internships from the first year, which contain all the necessary practical experience in the field.
Infrastructure: Hostel facilities are available for both boys and girls. The hostel has very good maintenance staff members, and strict discipline is maintained. The food is better than in other hostels. However, one shouldn't expect it to be the same as we eat at home.
Faculty: Faculty members are very helpful. They are always more than willing to guide students. We are always encouraged to meet our professors after the classes for any problems, and there are extra classes as well for underperforming students. They teach very well, and individual attention is given to every student. They are cooperative and very nice. Exams are conducted on a semester basis. There are 2 semesters per year. Semesters of 6 months each of 10 marks, along with the semester exams of 80 marks. The other 10 marks are for attendance, presentation, and projects. The course structure is very good. It has a semester system, which is very good for a degree college. Students can get help from professors whenever they want. The course is apt for commerce students and gives them insight into academic study, research, as well as representing seminars, etc.

It has well-structured academics, decent faculty, and good scope for growth but limited campus life.
Placements: In my course, not many students applied for placements, so I think probably like 5% of students got placements. We do have an idea since I have not applied for placements. 80% of students got internships in companies like Fortis, Apollo, etc. I actually don't have much idea about it. Top roles are offered as nobody applied for placements in my course.
Infrastructure: Every classroom is air-conditioned. It has smart boards with a podium, and seats are somewhat comfortable. There is Wi-Fi, but the connection is too slow and jammers are fitted in classrooms, so there's no network connection at all. I have not opted for hostel facilities, so I don't know about it. The canteen provides very good quality food at an affordable price. Various sports are played on the campus, including annual sports day.
Faculty: Some teachers are very helpful, qualified, and knowledgeable about the subject they are teaching. Their teaching technique is very good, but some of them are not up to the mark. The course curriculum is highly relevant to my course, and it covers all parts of psychology and enhances my knowledge of psychology. The difficulty level is moderate as most of the class students pass exams, and a very low number of students have backlogs.
Other: I chose B.A. (Hons.) in Psychology because of my deep interest in understanding human behavior, mental processes, and emotional dynamics. I would wish to inculcate more practical knowledge rather than theoretical. Every year, an annual fest called Xavrang happens during January. There are many clubs and societies which students can take part in, according to their interests and hobbies. The campus is beautiful with a lot of greenery.

I have a bitter-and-sweet relationship with campus.
Placements: As a student of Xavier's, I can confidently share an honest overview of the placement and internship opportunities given to us in the law department are quite low in comparison to other departments in our college. Overall the training and placement cell was active and is providing valuable support in resume building and coordinating with recruiters.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of the campus is quite good and there are various facilities which are available to the students for their comfort and enjoyment. The library provides access in off-campus mode also. Students can get access to EBSCO, EPW LexisNexis, etc.
Faculty: The faculty in each and every department is friendly and cooperative, they try to help the students as much as possible. The course curriculum has relevance in the practical world and the course is not that difficult if you focus on the classes and listen to the lectures delivered by the professors.
Other: This course provides various opportunities in real life and it is a very lengthy course yet an interesting one. The co-curriculum is attractive there are various societies that organize different events.

B.A. (Hons.) in Mass Communication - Batch of 2028

Be cautious of your attendance at SXUK otherwise a good college for your media career.
Placements: I am a B.A. mass communication student from semester 3. About 65-70% of students got placed. The highest package is 6 LPA, and the lowest salary is around 2.5 LPA. The average salary is nearly 4 LPA. Top recruiters included ABP News, The Times Group, Zee Media, and more PR firms. Around 70% of secured internships in companies like NDTV, Ogilvy, etc.
Infrastructure: The mass communication department has well-equipped classrooms with smartboards, high-speed Wi-Fi, and an audio-visual MAC lab for media production and graphic design. There is also a studio, editing suite, and camera equipment. Hostel facilities come with clean rooms, 24X7 water, Wi-Fi, and electricity. The food in the mess is average but hygienic. They also provide special meals during special events. Facilities such as games, room, gym, and sports courts are also available. One drawback is that all rooms are non-AC rooms and in the Kolkata heat, they do not permit any kind of external installations like coolers.
Faculty: Faculty members at SXUK are highly qualified, approachable, and have many industry backgrounds. Teaching quality is good with practical and theory-based learning. The curriculum is NEP 2020 aligned and covers journalism, advertising, PR, and communication skills that make students industry-ready. Hence, the passing percentage is approximately 85-90%.
Other: Attendance is a crucial thing followed on the campus where a candidate is required to maintain 75% attendance rate at all times and often medical exceptions. Also, not considered to lead to the department of students unfairly making them re-register in the next academic year with the same fees and formalities.

St. Xavier's University - A hub of knowledge.
Placements: The college has a pretty good placement rate, with big companies coming to the campus to hire its students. The college has a good reputation because of Xavier's name, thus companies and organizations always want to come here and hire the best available students for their firm.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure available is really up to the mark, with a full-fledged studio and several media equipment available for mass communication. The college has a lot of essential equipment. However, the hostel facility available is quite expensive, being around Rs. 80,000 per semester, which is quite expensive for everyone to afford the hostel facility.
Faculty: The faculty and curriculum available for my course are quite well. It's constantly evolving by implementing the latest trends in the field of media. They constantly try to give students a much more experiential knowledge rather than a theory-based one. The faculty is highly qualified, with everyone willing to communicate with the students and trying to find solutions to their problems.
Other: The main reason I chose this course is my interest in the field of media. Thus, I always wanted to pursue mass communication, and finding a college like St. Xavier's has always been on my bucket list.

Review of St. Xavier's College of Kolkata.
Placements: Approximately 65 percent of students were placed in our college, with the highest package of 8.6 LPA per annum and the lowest salary package of 3 LPA per annum. Expected companies like Wipro and TCS are visiting our college. Top roles offered are data analyst, teacher job, computer developer, etc. Several students have even received high placement offers. There are various programs for B.Com students where several different guests visit; these guests are usually startup owners, small business owners, or even entrepreneurs. They give lectures about their journey and organize engagement sessions with the audience.
Infrastructure: The hostel timeline is not too good, nor is the food. The seniors in the hostel try to rule over the juniors like bosses. Students of the third year are capable of utilizing the facilities of the placement cell, whereas second years are only allowed to receive guidance. With practically everything maintained and cared for, there is nothing wrong with the college layout. Classrooms and labs are also first-rate. The college has two basketball courts, one volleyball court, and two cafeterias. The fisheries department has one storage tank and a 200-capacity auditorium.
Faculty: The teachers are genuinely caring and very helpful to the students anytime we need their support. Teachers are very motivating and also give the best quality teaching, which would not require getting separate tuition. Teachers always keep on tracking our progress, which is the best quality of the teacher here. Nevertheless, the college has excellent faculty. Semester exams are easy, and the pass rate is 78%. The teachers are well-qualified, but some dedicate their time to teaching us, while others just teach for the sake of it. And we can still reappear next year if we can't clear our papers.
Other: I chose this course as it would help me learn a lot of things regarding finance and accounting and it doesn't stick to one particular subject but teaches us different subjects per semester. Campus life is really good. There are various events happening in and around the college when there are no exams, and the college organizes a week for students with themes; this event is known as College Week and is a popular event among all the students and colleges in Kolkata.
