My first year at LNMIIT taught me a lot : Abhishek Bansal
Making a choice of college and course in a very crucial decision in a student’s life. A decision which can completely transform our lives; boon or bane is all in our hands. Basic understanding of a student while making a choice of college and course is to evaluate on the basis of marks scored in the respective subject. Same is what I did and chose PCM because I scored 80% in science in class X boards. After deciding on the stream, the next big question was to further build a career in that stream.
I have always felt the need of a counselor in my life. There were times when I was in need of suggestions and support, no one but I myself had to boost the morale and step ahead in life. Owing to my brother this time, I managed to select the right path and chose engineering as a career option.
How I chose my college and course
Engineering in India is all about JEE and IITs/NITs/IIITs. IITs being the main focus, I began with my preparation to appear for JEE. When planning to crack JEE, JEE Advanced should be the goal. Mains will itself fall on the right path.
Aiming to crack JEE, I planned to get enrolled into a good coaching centre. A coaching institute near my place was the right choice as this would save my travel time which can then be utilized to study. While I was planning to crack JEE, I didn’t have a clue what is it all about? Everything appeared alien to me but I had to achieve the goal. My elder brother and the coaching faculty guided me towards the right path. Furthermore, I feel Shiksha is equally helpful as my brother. The website provides every possible detail in just a single click. It not only guides but also counsels a candidate who is in search of a college/ course or simply exploring options to build the career.
After clearing JEE, I decided to bag a seat in one of the IITs. Failing to secure a seat because of my marks, I moved towards LNMIIT. I feel that LNMIIT I better than any of the NITs, except the top 5 campuses.
How I cracked college admissions
First, I would like to say that had been counselled in the right path, I would have been somewhere else. When planning for JEE, one should almost skip school or get enrolled into some private schooling. This really saves your time and efforts to complete homework from school and then prepare for JEE. While I was in class IX, I was totally unaware of the plan of action one should implement in order to clear JEE. I studied for only 4-6 hours which was less than the time which should actually be devoted. Devoting more time to JEE preparation and mocks would have helped me scored better. And, I feel that all this is due to lack of proper guidance which I should have received.
I scored 127 marks in JEE Mains and managed to bag a seat in LNMIIT – Jaipur into its BTech in Electronics and Communication Engineering branch. It was not just JEE that I wrote. I had also appeared for various other popular engineering entrance examinations like VITEEE, BITSAT, and UPSEE but could not succeed.
I wish to share one interesting thing that I came across, a candidates is unable to bag a seat in their choice of college and courses with just a single rank or one mark. This was really surprising and funny for me at the same time.
Life at LNMIIT – Jaipur
According to me college life is the most important and impactful journey in everyone’s life. It makes you enjoy that part of your life which you never want to miss it. The fun remains half if you are not living in the college hostel. Living with friends might not be that interesting but it makes you learn a lot of life lessons. This will certainly improve your living standards and the way you look at life. It impacts the overall development of a student. Now comes another interesting chapter of college life which is the academics. At LNMIIT, there give approximately 40 lectures per subject and the name of these subjects appear all alien to me.
In every semester there are 2-3 class which you never which to attend because you think they are boring. However, attendance system makes you forceful attend these classes. Another thing which involves some excitement is when the results are announced and the entire batch beats up the topper for scoring well. No matter how stupid it sounds now, but it is really funny.
Extra-curricular activities at college will also keep you engaged. At LNMIIT, there are various sports club (dance, drama, music, nukkad, etc.), technical clubs (phoenix, cybros, etc.), various organization (ACM, CSI, IEEE, SAE, ASME, etc.).
To perform all these activities there, are certain events like “Gusto” which is held each year and a number of technical competitions happen every month. There are three major fests of our college:
1. Plinth (technical fest)
2. Desportivos (sports fest)
3. Vivacity (Cultural fest)
All the above mentioned fests are the major attraction of college life which builds competition, make you learn the art of leadership, management skills and many more qualities that held in building your personality.
The other exciting part of spending life at college are the elections. If given chance, I would like my college to gain more popularity and put in all possible efforts for the same to bright and shine like a start among students.
College experience has completely changed my life. I can say that I am a better person within a year of my college life. Stepping forward, I would definitely transform into a better person than I was earlier, at the time of admissions.
