Preparing for CA or CS alongside BCom is rewarding: Pratil Bhaumik
I was more interested in the field of Commerce. Finance, making tables and allocating figures were something which I liked from the past. Since my siblings were also in the field of Commerce, I also decided to go ahead with this field. Physics & Maths were the subjects which I hated, so there were no chances of taking them. I think Commerce is a very vast topic, and there are numerous things which you can do. Both Science and Commerce are equally important, as without science, there is no innovation and without commerce, there is no management.
Career Decision
One should always think twice and select the stream that he/she wants to study. You should have the will to study, as when there’s a will, there is a way.
There are a large number of other courses that you can take up in Commerce like Charted Accountancy (CA). It’s a prestigious post which requires hard work and will. Also, I need to mention Company Secretary (CS), a compliance officer. I am pursuing regular BCom with CS. You can also take up regular BCom or other numerous streams to choose from and do CA/CS at the same time.
Exam Tips for Securing Admission
Now, it is about getting into a college. Right after 10th, you should choose a stream of your choice. What helped me during my boards were previous years’ question papers; just solve as many papers as you can. This is the best thing you can do in your boards. I also used to go for tuition classes which were just next to where I used to live. Joining classes or a tutor would be more helpful, as you can revise the same thing once in school and another time with your tutor. After your 12th, you are exposed to the outside world, where you may be knowing probably no one. Pass your 12th with great scores, so you can secure your admission in a good prestigious college. Talking about securing admission in BCom completely depends on how you fair in your 12th. After that, there are some online steps and you have to go to the college for getting a prospectus. Once you have secured admission, you are good to go.
Let’s talk about Company Secretary now. A CS is a compliance officer who gives suggestions to the top-level management. The CS field is related to Law. There are 3 steps to become a CS 1st) Foundation, 2nd) Executive, 3rd) Professional. This course is completed in 4-5 years depending upon the individual. You can start it with your 3-year BCom course. I have given the foundation level, which was held on December 2017. There are 4 books which are quite bulky actually but they are related to what you did in your 11th & 12th. It took me 2-3 weeks of studies, and I appeared and cleared it in the first attempt. Foundation is not that tough but it depends upon individuals. My suggestions would be, taking classes for CS foundation or BCom first year would be a huge NO; you can do it yourself.
College Life
I am studying BCom in B.K. Birla College of Arts, Science & Commerce (formerly known as Birla College of Arts, Science & Commerce). I joined this college in the year 2017. This college is situated in Kalyan, Thane, Maharashtra. This is the best college beyond Thane you can get. I took admission here because I always wanted to be here, and this college was very near to my residence. This college has all the facilities you would find in any college in city side. This has a good connectivity from different places near Kalyan. If you are staying somewhere between Kasara to Dombivili, or Karjat to Dombivili, you should definitely take admission here. All facilities are available right from a Gymkhana, a separate 2-floor library with a reading room, state-of-the-art computer labs, Internet facilities and a canteen, parking facilities, and a big playground. So, what more do you need? Everything is available here that will help you concentrate on your studies. There are 2 fests conducted in college every year; a science fest and a cultural fest conducted in the month of December every year. Also, I need to mention various projects, inter-college functions, programs from the Women Development Cell exclusively for women, and other functions which are going on throughout the year. So, you don’t get bored while studying as there is something for everyone to get involved in. Now, as the college tenure nears its end, there are placements conducted every year. There is a dedicated placement cell for assisting and guiding students. Every year, camps are also held for helping you out in securing a job. Also, in this college, there is a centre for foreign languages which offer you foreign languages for global exposure. Languages like French, German and Japanese can be studied in this college.
After BCom, you can also pursue MBA in India or abroad, for which you would have to give some tests like TOEFL, GMAT for MBA, and GRE for Engineering. If you plan to pursue education abroad, USA, UK and Singapore are some hotspots for MBA. The college will help you in all fields as there are highly trained professors. They will guide you in MBA, CA or CS or whatever you wish to do in your life. BCom is the best you can study and you will get good knowledge in these 3 years. You get knowledge regarding company accounts, management, economics and other related fields. So now, it’s on you to decide something for your future, as this is the right time.

Yes, direct admissions are possible in the course. Students can apply on the basis of Class 12 marks. The application forms are released on official college website. The college releases cutoff list for each course. Students who clear the cutoff can get admissions.
