Extra-curricular activities at GLA University

GLA, being one of the best private institutes in the northern region, believes in the all-round development of its students and supports them in all possible ways to achieve the same. There are various student societies and clubs in almost all departments and domains, including cultural ones. All these clubs and societies keep organising various contests and competitions such as quizzes, workshops, site visits, technical talks, and career development webinars on a regular basis.

The following are some of the best student societies at the university:

1. The Yantriki Society is associated with the department of Mechanical Engineering.

2. ASME: The American Society of Mechanical Engineers was founded in the year 2013 to provide an opportunity to enhance and develop their technical skills and knowledge. It promotes networking with professionals and other students from all over the world. Among the events they organise are NEXUS, a National Level Tech Event; IMPETUS, an Inter-College Article Writing Competition; and a Workshop on Python for Machine Learning and Data Science.

3. The Poetry Club is one of the best known and most acknowledged clubs, which started in the year 2016 under the guidance and leadership of Mr. Sandeep Debnath. The club has been involved in more than 25 activities to date and is counting. The goal is to unite all poetry enthusiasts at the university under one umbrella.

4. The Saturangle Club has 15 members belonging to various courses and years. The club has organised various debate competitions and other fun activities from time to time. Some of the topics include: Are we becoming hyper nationalists? Who is responsible for child labor? Should euthanasia be legalized? Is technology generating procrastinators and many more questions along these lines?

5. Droid: This club is basically related to Automation, Robotics, Reverse Engineering, and Prototyping activities. The main aim of this club is to provide students with an opportunity to work in software design even if you are from core backgrounds such as Civil, Mechanical, or Electrical by working on large and small-scale robotics projects.

6. Infinite Club: This club is under the solar energy research centre, and the main aim of the club is to provide a platform to do some extraordinary things relating to the application of solar energy to uplift the lives of ordinary people. It also organises workshops and lectures by academicians and industry experts.

All the societies have dedicated faculty and student co-ordinators to support the society and run it in a smooth manner. If you have any doubts or if you need any kind of clarity with respect to any of the above mentioned societies, you may contact the concerned co-ordinators or respective department. Apart from all these clubs/societies, you can also enrol yourself for swimming classes, dance classes, or any other sporting activity if you are interested or want to indulge in any regular

activity. Also, several other cultural and sporting activities are scheduled every year in which you can take part and excel.

A law fest, AVYUKTA 2022, was organised by the Institute of Legal Studies & Research (ILSR) of the University from May 6 to 8, 2022, at the campus premises, basically celebrating the various cultural and sports activities among various law schools from all across the country. The sporting activities included Cricket, Kabaddi, Volleyball, Tennis, Chess, Basketball, and cultural events included singing competitions, open mic events, stage plays, dance competitions, painting and photography.

If you have a good rapport with your seniors and teachers, and you have performed well in your academics, you also get a chance to be a part of the event management committee or in organising committees for these fests and other events of the university. These opportunities prepare you to face challenges in your personal life or in the workplace. You can improve your leadership abilities as well as your ability to work in a group. The main aim is to bring students from various fields under one roof where they can share their thoughts, ideas, and skills, which can help others and vice-versa.

It is relevant to involve/engage yourself in a minimum of one extra-curricular activity, which not only helps you personally but is also important from a career and placement point of view in the long run. Companies/organizations give preference to candidates who have achievements apart from studies. Participating in these extra-curricular activities helps in building your personality, strengthens self-confidence, and might help you get opportunities in the fields of drama, sports, or any other relevant field.
