NIIT University offers flexible curriculum, designed and revised based on students’ interests, says Shivank
I never had plans to become a Computer Science Engineer or to land in a consultancy since childhood. Such decisions are made gradually while our learning stage. I had Science and Economics as my core subjects during school, but I was fascinated by the news and happenings in the tech industry. So, I planned to pursue Computer Science Engineering. I landed up at NIIT University as it has already established its name in the field of tech and computers. I joined the University and gradually developed an interest in the field.
In today’s scenario, Computer Science has become a vast field and the world is moving towards new specialisations. So, while studying and researching at the university I chose Cybersecurity as my specialisation.
The best part of NIIT University is its flexible curriculum, which is designed and revised as per students’ interest and also gives a plethora of specialisation options to choose from.
After a student completes Class 12 exams, they have an ocean of opportunities to choose from. In India, a lot of time, the opportunity in Computer Science depends upon the marks in JEE Main. While I performed well in the exam, due to so much competition I was unable to find my choice of seat. Then, I applied for IP University and other entrance exams such as Thapar, BITSAT, etc., and have passed with good scores in various institutes such as IP, Thapar, Shiv Nadar and LNMIIT. I got to know from a friend about NIIT University and considering the fact that the University is set up by the founders of NIIT, a pioneer in computer education, I was naturally attracted to it. There was an interview round and an aptitude test for admission to this University. I performed well and was offered a seat in the Computer Science stream with a scholarship. So yes, I tried various institutes and in the end, I joined NIIT university because of its unique curriculum which offers specialisations in the third year and Industrial placements in last semester.
In India, a lot of time, the opportunity in Computer Science depends upon the marks in JEE Main. While I performed well in the exam, due to so much competition I was unable to find my choice of seat.
College days are one of the best days of a student’s life. NIIT University has classes from morning 8 am to 5 pm. Since it is a residential campus, we did get up a couple of minutes before the first class. My time at the university was spent by attending classes and various activities planned all day long (sometimes skipping a few). There is a range of subjects that I liked such as OS, Cryptography, Network Security and Economics and at the same time, there were a few I hated. I love sports and I made sure to spend my weekends on the badminton court and pool room.
NIIT University is a student-centric University, so you get ample opportunities for personal development.
I was personally part of various leadership roles such as Core Team Member of IngeNUity (Annual Cultural fest), Head of Think Tank of StudCops (Student Initiative which sponsors various college events and runs night canteens) and Member of SAC (Student Affairs Committee).
I aspire to become a consultant who can help clients to solve their complex business and security problems. I, as a consultant, need to fit into and enhance complex global transformations and solve complex business challenges (which increases the scope, risk, and impact of innovative and transformation projects and demands consultants who can deal with executives at the most senior levels of the organisation).
