B.Tech. in Mechanical Engineering - Batch of 2025
5.0
My college is so great, and gave me the opportunity to get introduced to the life of engineering.
Placements: Approximately 80% student were placed in my course. The highest package was 4.5 LPA, the average was 3 LPA, and the lowest was 1.7 LPA. The top recruits were Grupo Antolin Chakan Pvt Ltd and Sarda Motors. 50% of students got internships from Tata Power. The top role was quality inspector and operations.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi, labs, and the library were available for 24 hours. The hostel facility and food were too healthy and good, and emergency medicine was available in the college and hostel. Sports and games tools were also available. Annual sports were arranged every year to keep the students active.
Faculty: Teachers were too helpful in times of difficulty, and they were highly qualified and knowledgeable. The course curriculum makes the students industry-ready. Semester examinations are moderate level, and almost 89% were passed. Every teacher of every branch helped us to expand our knowledge with the practical guide.
Other: I chose the course because I love machines and mathematics. Much of the practical knowledge makes my course improve. Many events happen every year, fest also arrange from student of the college. SVMCM scholarship and OASIS scholarship are provided by merit.

Good infrastructure and placements.
Placements: In our college, the placement percentage is average, approximately 50%. Especially IT companies came for recruitment. But, this year, 2 or 3 students from the Mechanical Engineering department are placed in core companies. The highest package for on-campus placement is approximately 8.5 LPA. The average is 5.2 LPA and the lowest is 4 LPA. Infosys, Cognizant, Wipro, Technoforte, etc. offered job opportunities. Many other companies also come for recruitment. Basically, students get internships in off-campus mode. But the percentage of students who get internships is not so good. Basically, our college gives the B.Tech degree in Computer Science and Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering and Textile Technology department, and also gives the M.Tech degree in Textile Technology department.
Infrastructure: The campus is equipped with a high-speed internet facility. The institute has a 24X7 Wi-Fi facility on the college campus for the student and faculty members to avail internet connection at any place in the college & faculty houses. The connectivity through a fully networked campus with state-of-the-art IT infrastructure, computing & communication resources offers students the facilities of e-mail, net surfing, up/down loading of web-based applications, besides helping them in preparing projects & seminars. The institute has developed well-equipped laboratories covering various featured lab machines instruments with skilled lab assistants and thus making it stand among the good Engineering institutes. The college offers a four-storied hostel facility with an intake of 100 students with food and lodging for the boys only. The hostel is having a playground, gymnasium, library and indoor games facilities.
Faculty: Our faculty members always teach about the industrial work culture. It helps us to be ready for the requirements of an industry. Actually, our teachers are too strict in the exam hall. Our semester exams are conducted really well.

Special IT companies are visiting our college, but the placements are s not good.
Placements: Campus placements are not so good, especially for mechanical engineering. The placement is good for other departments like CSE and the textile department. About 40% of students get placed in our college. The average salary package offered is 1.8 LPA, and the highest salary package is 7.8 LPA. Good companies come to recruit students. Students should complete their B. Tech course at this college before considering further studies such as M. Tech, MBA, and so on. Students should prepare for these higher studies by taking exams such as GATE, CAT, etc. I must suggest you join the college only to complete your B.Tech because it's very tough to get a campus placement in this college. One must start preparing for higher studies by cracking exams from the 1st year onwards. This college fee structure is too low, so it is very affordable for students who belong to economically backward families.
Infrastructure: The hostel rooms are clean, large, air-conditioned, and have 24x7 electrical facilities. The meal quality is dependent on the students. Vegetables, curry, meat, eggs, and fish are available on the menu. But I repeat, it depends on the students. The hostel facility is good, but first-year students can't get a hostel room. This is one disadvantage. You can get a good room, mess, or PG in this college area. These facilities, excluding the meal charge, are available for a fee of around Rs. 2,000. Meal charges vary in PG, in the mess, etc. Students can get a room and a PG for around 1 km. So it's very good. Students get a room at around 200 m. I suggest future students get a room or PG. It's better than a hostel for your studies.
Faculty: I opted for this course because I love mechanical engineering and I am the biggest fan of Iron Man, who is a mechanical engineer. The faculty to student ratio is 34:720. The faculty members are good and well-qualified. Their teaching methods are different from each other. Some faculty members teach with their notes, while others just do board work and read the books. In this engineering field, the teachers do practical classes very well. There are 5 exams per subject and 4 continuous assessments, which are completed by giving the test exam, and then comes the final semester exam. These exams are easily cracked by students if they study well. This college is under MAKAUT University. So the questions are medium-level.
Other: I opted for this course because I love mechanical engineering and I am the biggest fan of Iron Man, who is a mechanical engineer. The point is that the fee structure at this college is very low. The maximum fee for four years is Rs. 35,000. Students can easily handle it, and they get the opportunity of scholarships and financial assistance like the TFW facility, so students can easily complete the B.Tech course at this college. Students can also get many scholarships, like the SVMCM scholarship, the OASIS scholarship, the SIEMENS scholarship, the special coding-related scholarship, etc. But you must remember that you can only get one scholarship that is provided by the government, and you will get your own scholarship based on your own eligibility. The TFW facility is available only for a few students.

Review of Government College of Engineering and Textile Technology, Berhampore.
Placements: In our college, campus placements are not good, especially the mechanical engineering campus, and other departments like CSE and textile department campus are good. Around 40% of students are placed. Good companies are come to take the campusing. Students should complete just their B.Tech course in this college and they should think about higher studies like M.Tech, MBA, etc. Students should take the preparation for this higher studies cracking exams like GATE, CAT, etc. Students take the college for just completing the B.Tech because it is very tough to get the campus in this college. Students must take the preparation of higher studies cracking exams from 1st year. This college fees structure is low so it is very affordable for the students who are belonging to a poor family.
Infrastructure: The quality of classrooms and laboratories are very good, and the quality of food in the canteen is average. Our college provides facilities like Wi-Fi, laboratories, a library, etc. It is an excellent college to study in with sufficient classrooms, sufficient faculty members, and laboratory infrastructure.
Faculty: They give knowledge about many professional-related courses so that students can grow their practical knowledge and good engineers. The teaching method projects, and teachers are practically good for teaching. Teachers are helpful. They help to clear the semester with good marks but also they help students, if they face some problem while solving questions for GATE or ESE exam.
Other: Fests, annual sports, freshers welcome, and other activities are held in our college.

Satisfying faculty, good placements in 2021 and nice facilities are available.
Placements: A good many numbers of students selected for the companies those who came in our college. The highest package offered by the companies is 15 Lacs per annum.90 percent of the students get internship from tier course. The companies like TATA came for the selection.
Infrastructure: Wi-Fi is available in our college and the lab facilities are very excellent. The classrooms of our college are very neat and clean. The college library is full of books. The college gives us the books we need to learn. The food quality nof the college canteen is very good, medical facilities is also available there and every year there annual sports.
Faculty: The teachers are well educated and very skilled. They are so friendly to the students. They can understand our problems and help us to know abut the engineering. They never loss patients to teach us. We are very happy to have them as a teacher.
Other: I think this course is the best course I ever know. B.Tech, was my dream which I am fulfilling in this very renowned college in berhampore. The market is just adjacent to the hostel and main campus.

Overall placement percentage is good and the faculty are very helpful. The seniors are very nice.
Placements: Around 50-60% were placed in campus and 95% students were placed overall and the rest 5% move for higher studies. Many students are doing internships. The main recruiting companies are trident, cognizent, TCS, etc. Most recruiting companies are from the IT sector.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure is good and faculty and education system are very good. We receive help from our seniors. The libraries are very nice and contains most of the books we need but the no. of copies of the book are low, the curriculum activities such as sports, drama, music, debate and many more societies are present. The labs and workshops are also good.
Faculty: All the teachers are qualified and good as the college is government engineering college all the faculty members are well qualified. The seniors we have are also very good and helpful. There are total 18 exams before the semester exam. The engineering is quite difficult but the degree is very cost-effective .
Other: Mechanical engineering is a course which a evergreen course according to me as I can explore more places of education.

Review of Government College of Engineering and Textile Technology, Berhampore.
Placements: In the mechanical engineering course, an average of 68% of students got placed. The highest package offered in mechanical engineering is 4.6 LPA, and the lowest package is 0.8 LPA, and the average package is 3 LPA. Mahindra, Simplex Engineering Company, Wesman Thermal Engineering Processes, etc., offer placements. 16% of students got internships from the mechanical department. Good communication and presentation skills are the added advantages, and a candidate will be tested on these aspects throughout the selection process.
Infrastructure: Everything which is necessary is available here, like lab instruments, classrooms, library books etc. The quality of the facilities in our hostel is very good, but the quality of food available in mess and canteen is average. Medical facilities, sports and games facilities are very good.
Faculty: Every teacher is well-qualified and helpful, but 67% of teachers are good at teaching. The course makes the students industry-ready. Semester exams are sometimes easy and sometimes difficult, depending on the subject. 40% is the pass percentage.
Other: I chose it because I like mechanical engineering. We apply our knowledge practically. Some machines should be available in our course, like an induction generator etc. Connectivity is very good between seniors and juniors and also some teachers. Some seniors have started their own companies, so they offer jobs to juniors. This is a plus point. Some seniors will teach the subjects before our teachers to make juniors advanced like in C programming etc. Many extracurricular activities are held in GCETTB college like coding competition, blood donation camp, tree plantation etc.

Our college has good infrastructure, but I'm dissatisfied because of placements in our department.
Placements: Only a few core companies visit our college. The placement scenario is not good for the mechanical engineering department and electrical engineering department. However, for the textile technology department and computer science and engineering department, the placements are pretty decent. TPO section of our college is jointly working with other West Bengal government colleges by conducting on-campus drives and pooled campus drives. For textile technology, the alumni network is quite good and it helps a lot during placements in companies. Above 90% of the students get placed in the textile technology department. Companies like Adobe, Wipro, Cognizant, and Syntex, have visited the campus. Our college provides internships mainly for the textile technology department and computer science and engineering department, if you want to take mechanical engineering in this college then you have to find the internship on your own. The salary packages offered vary from 2.5 LPA to 12 LPA, and the highest salary package offered was 20 LPA in 2018 by Adobe. You have to gain in-depth knowledge in coding languages in order to grab a good salary package from IT companies.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure of our college is very good. The campus is not large but well-organised. The campus is equipped with a high-speed internet facility. The institute has a 24X7 Wi-Fi facility in the college campus for the student and faculty members to avail internet connection at any place in the college & faculty houses. Labs are decent for all branches, our college has well-equipped laboratories covering various featured lab machines and instruments. However, for CAD/CAM software college doesn't provide the original software but overall the workshops are good. Classrooms are clean and can accommodate 45 students. The college offers a four-storied hostel facility with an intake of 100 students with food and lodging for the boys only. The hostel is having a playground, gymnasium, library, and indoor games facilities. All books are available in the library. A student can borrow two books at a time for two weeks. The hostel and the mess are run by a hostel committee consisting of the hostel superintendent, staff members & students. The quality of the mess food is good and healthy. The institute is situated on the east side of Barrack Square, known as Square Field in Berhampore. Banks, district head post office, police station, two hospitals are located within the 500-meter distance of the institute.
Faculty: All the faculty members are highly qualified and very helpful. Their teaching style is also good and knowledgeable. If you want to prepare for the GATE examination then you have to go for online classes as there are no institutes present for the GATE examination. We have 4 internal exams in each semester in which we give theory as well as practical exams. In the end, final examinations are held by our university, MAKAUT. The difficulty level of the exam paper depends on the preparation of students. But overall the difficulty level is intermediate. One can have to secure atleast 6 SGPA in each semester examination. At the end of the 7th semester, students are ready for their campusing.
Other: I opted for this course because I have a keen interest in machines and machine designs, I decided to pursue my career in this field. There are a lot of things to learn and explore in the 4-year B.Tech journey. Since it is a government college, the fee structure is very less, the tuition fee is Rs.6,500 per year for mechanical engineering, TWF quota has to pay Rs. 6,000 per year and if one can apply for an SVMCM scholarship he /she gets Rs. 60,000 for their academics per year. We celebrate Saraswati Puja, Biswakarma Puja and the most popular we celebrate is Alfresco. Tech fest and annual fest are also conducted per year. There are many clubs like tech club, photography club, coding club, and music club. So one can explore huge in 4 years of study.
