B.Tech. in Electronics and Communication Engineering - Batch of 2024
4.2
A good government college that is well accessible and in the heart of the city.
Placements: Most of the placements were either for software companies as assistant engineers or as marketing and sales executives, but core companies like Visteon, BEL, and Tata Elxsi had also come. Also edutech and banking companies came for campus placements.
Infrastructure: I was a day scholar. So I don't know about hostels. But there's college Wi-Fi, a technical library, a canteen, and also a store to get general-purpose items and snacks/tea/coffee/drinks. Labs are okay. Classrooms are good, with few classrooms having TVs. A seminar hall is also there.
Faculty: Most of the faculty were really helpful and completed the entire syllabus; if they couldn't, it was because of the shorter duration of semesters in academic calendars beyond their control. The curriculum is almost relevant, and semester exams are moderate to easy most of the time.
Other: Technical societies like IEEE, CSI, ASME, and ISTE are really active, even at regional and global levels. Many project opportunities with well-established organizations also present from time to time.

It is a very good college to study B.Tech.
Placements: Our college has a high number of placements. The pass percentage is about 71%, which is in 4th place among the engineering colleges in Kerala. Dell, HP, Microsoft, and Infosys are some examples of recruiting companies. In the previous year, there were a lot of seniors who got placed for these companies.
Infrastructure: It has a Wi-Fi facility and a very good lab. But now, a new building is under construction. So lab facilities are limited to a small place. Classrooms and the library are also very good. The quality of the food served is so good. There is a good canteen and sports ground also.
Faculty: Teachers are very well qualified. A majority of them are Ph.D. holders. They have a lot of teaching experience. But due to the lack of time in the KTU syllabus and schedule teachers have to rush to complete their portions. Even though they will help us to do better. Exams are also conducted for testing students. The pass percentage is about 71%.
Other: My ambition is to become an ISRO scientist. So, I have opted for this course. I have to work hard to achieve that goal. The fests and cultural activities are so fantastic in our college. Our seniors are very supportive and there is no ragging. There are many scholarships and extracurricular activities also.

Review of Government Engineering College, Barton hill.
Placements: Around 90% of the students without backlogs get placed, which accounted for 80% of the students in the class. The highest salary package offered was 5 LPA, and the lowes salary package offered, including our course was 3.1 LPA. The average salary package offered, including our course, was almost 3.4 LPA. The top recruiting companies include TCS, Envestnet, Tata Elxi, Zia semiconductors, Q burst, West, Flytxt, Travancore analytics, Tata communication, Wipro etc. The roles offered include software engineer, business development executive, design engineer etc. The highest salary package offered in our course was 4.5 LPA. No opportunity for an internship was provided from the college. Few students opted for internships on their own which accounted for 10% of the batch, mostly in government agencies like ISRO.
Infrastructure: The college provides 24x7 Wi-Fi availability with a high-speed connection. Classrooms are non-air-conditioned with projectors and speakers facilities. The library has a decent amount of books which are accessible to students. Labs are well-equipped. No hostel is available for boys. Girls are provided with two hostels, having the opportunity for recreational activities and gymnasium, mess provides traditional Kerala food at cheap rates with good quality. Medical aids are available in case of emergencies. The college has a canteen which has a wide variety of Kerala traditional foods.
Faculty: Teachers of our college are highly qualified, very helpful and knowledgeable. Certain teachers are par with the best faculty members who are available within the state. Overall, the teaching quality is very good. Teachers also assist students in doing projects as well as publishing journals. The curriculum follows as per the Kerala Technological University, which strives to make students industry-ready.
Other: The course available is the second-best in Trivandrum city and the top 7 in all Kerala. This institute provides students with an excellent platform to nourish their technical and leadership skills. The institute provides an excellent platform for leadership under a strong college union elected by students. National level Techno cultural fest Aagneya is the flagship programme of the college union. The institute provides students with the opportunity to improve their technical as well as leadership skills via platforms like IEEE, ISTE, CSI, ASME etc. As socially relevant engineering college various NGO's working under the students provide an excellent opportunity for charity works, these NGO 's include Inspire, Velicham, NSS etc. Institute also has TBI cell, which helps students achieve their startup dreams. College also provides students with the opportunity for various sport like cricket, football, basketball, volleyball, chess, table tennis, boxing, wrestling, badminton, swimming etc. The major constraints of the institute include lack of space for further development of infrastructure and team sports training facilities.

A place which teaches you things that you would never forget.
Placements: College achieved 100% placements just like it promised. The roles offered catered to all the departments in the college. TCS offered remote internship facility to 6 pre final year students. Few companies which had visited the campus are Dell, Bosch, Mindtree, Accenture etc.
Infrastructure: The campus is located in the prime area of palayam with all the facilities very near by. The campus is located in a hilly area which gives you the view of the entire city. Facilities are as expected from an engineering college with a very vast collection of books in the library. Mercedes-Benz had collaborated with the college to set up a learning center in the campus which is first of its kind.
Faculty: The curriculum the college follows is of the Kerala University. The curriculum provided the basic foundation of course with a wide variety of electives to choose from. The professors are well equipped to handle the course materials in an effective manner which is really engaging for the students.
Other: Campus is located at a very prime location. The major crowd puller is the inter college cultural fest Aagneya which garners people frlm around the city.

Good placements in 2016 and one of the best colleges.
Placements: The placements were pretty good for my batch and senior batch. More than 50% of the students got placed, and many had more than one offers in their hand. The average salary package offered was 3.5LPA, the highest was 6LPA and the lowest 2.5LPA. The students were actively involved in the recruitment process. The placement cell of the college is highly efficient and works for getting maximum placement.
Infrastructure: My college has facilities like Wi-Fi, labs, projectors in classrooms, library, etc. The quality of the labs and classrooms are good. The quality of food in the canteen is average. The infrastructure provided is really good, and we also have 2 lifts in the building.
Faculty: The teachers of my department are highly qualified and very helpful. The conduct lectures and special classes when needed and also provide extra attention to the students who are in need. The teaching quality is really good. The teachers use presentation and live demos for teaching.
Other: The college conducts inter-college techno-cultural fest named Aagneya. They also conduct intra-college arts and sports fest. All special occasions like women day, etc., are celebrated.

Overall, it is average. For the placement, you need to do extra work and search for the off-campus.
Placements: Around, 70%-75% of the placement is there, but these are mainly IT sector placements. Only 10% or fewer students get the core placement, but those are joining for the post graduation degree like M.Tech, MS, MBA, who got placed at the top IITs, IIMS, and in the top foreign universities. The placement cell needs improvement to bring in more core companies.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure on the campus is good, which is within a small area, and it is fine. We do have the college bus, and the college building is good. The work is going on for the new hostel and the college building. The college is being located in the heart of the city, and it is within reach. The labs are good, and the IT labs are also good. The negative is that, you don't have a ground although we have one of the best football, cricket, and basketball teams. The new conference hall is just awesome, and the new Mercedes Benz course is starting within the college, which adds a plus to the college.
Faculty: The faculty members are good. The electronics faculty members are good with the sound knowledge of a subject. The new KTU curriculum is good in fact the intern programme enhances the skill of students, and those hands-on sections are helpful in enhancing the knowledge too. The PPT presentation is used for teaching, and we do have a good library facility and an internet.
Other: The college fest 'Aagneya' is among the best festivals among Trivandrum colleges and was rated the 2nd best in south India in 2011 by Express India.

In 2015, the placements were good. The faculty are helpful and supportive.
Placements: The placements have been good for all the batches since 2014. Around, 80% of the students from the batch have received the placements. The highest package was 3.5 LPA CTC, the lowest was 3 LPA CTC, and the average was around 3.3 LPA CTC. All the major service providers like TCS, IBM, Capgemini, UST Global, Quest, and big data firms like Mu Sigma visited the campus. The roles varied from the systems engineer to data scientist. The students from ECE got an opportunity to do an internship with BSNL. It was not a paid internship.
Infrastructure: The campus has the Wi-Fi facilities in all the classrooms, labs, and academic areas. The library has the copies of all academic books that would be required for the course. Recently, they introduced the gym facilities, smart conference halls, and badminton courts. The hostel rooms are available for girls. I have not faced any infrastructure related issues during my tenure.
Faculty: The faculty members were helpful, knowledgeable, and qualified. Their academic qualifications can be found on the college website. They were of immense help during the B.Tech minor and major projects. The projectors are installed in all the classrooms to aid in teaching. There are industrial visits during the 5th semester. Apart from that, the regular industrial visits are organised by the various technical bodies like IEEE and ISTE.
Other: The college is located in the heart of Trivandrum city. So, all the facilities can be easily availed by the students without much travelling. All the classrooms are located in one central main building. This helps in the increased interaction among the various branches and also between the seniors and juniors.

College which changed my life
Placements: Fifty percent of the students were placed. Students who did not have any back papers were placed. Most of the companies which visited were IT companies. Two core companies also visited during my placements in Government Engineering College, Barton Hill.
Infrastructure: State of the art facilities are available in Government Engineering College, Barton Hill. There are separate labs and building for electronics, electrical, IT, civil and mechanical. GECB also hosts ADAMS where a separate building is there for a Mercedes-Benz coordinated course.
Faculty: Government Engineering College, Barton Hill followed the Kerala University syllabus and now, it is following Kerala Technological University syllabus. There are 8 semesters to be followed. All of the professors were postgraduates and have a good teaching experience.
