HIMT Cadets Inspire Students on Merchant Navy Opportunities at Bishop Corrie School
April 4, 2025: In an effort to inspire the next generation of mariners, four cadets from HIMT College, Chennai, recently visited Bishop Corrie Anglo-Indian Higher Secondary School to raise awareness about careers in the Merchant Navy. The session was held under the leadership of B.Sc. course in-charge, Captain P. Vasanth, and supported by Garish Jerome Sir and Uma Mam.
The cadets—Pavithra.P (B.Sc 13),R. Sreeram (B.Sc 11), Jianna Elizabeth (B.Tech 14), and Anandhu P.S. (B.Sc 13)—engaged with the students of the school, sharing insights on the Merchant Navy as a career option. They provided an overview of the industry, addressing common misconceptions and highlighting the opportunities available in this global field. The session was designed to inform the students about the various career paths available in the maritime sector and the advantages of choosing this profession.
A significant part of the session was a presentation by Garish Jerome Sir, who explained the structure of the maritime industry and the various courses students can pursue to enter the Merchant Navy. His PowerPoint presentation covered different aspects of ship operations and provided a roadmap for the students interested in this career path.
The cadets also shared their personal experiences as student cadets at HIMT, emphasizing how the college provides strong foundational knowledge and practical training for aspiring mariners. They answered questions from the curious students and clarified any doubts about life at sea and the educational journey required to get there. The cadets highlighted HIMT’s role in shaping competent professionals for the maritime industry, encouraging the students to consider the college for their future studies.
Launch of Vertical Integration Course for Trainers
November 16, 2019: HIMT College (Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training) has launched the Directorate General of Shipping (DGS)-approved "Vertical Integration Course for Trainers". It is mandatory to be undertaken for those who want to qualify as trainers and assessors for conduct of courses approved by the Directorate General of Shipping. It is important for the trainers to be technically qualified in all the aspects of their subjects. This course will help trainees to organise themselves better for effective teaching and training with the help of modern techniques and also will help them evaluate the teaching and learning process. This is a ten-day short course available for a fee of Rs 11,900. Towards the end of this course, trainees will have permanent, part-time, or short-contracts type of job opportunities available to them.
HIMT Receives Maritime Standard Award 2019
October 23, 2019: Upon completion of 21 years of educational services, Hindustan Institute of Maritime Training has been awarded with one National and International award- Maritime Standard Award 2019 in the category of “The Maritime Education and Training”. The award ceremony was organised at Atlantis, The Palm in Dubai. Prominent personalities across the globe were invited as the judges of the event. The award ceremony was attended by more than 700 executives from the shipping, ports, shipbuilding & repair industries and allied businesses from almost 70 countries. As it has always been a dazzling and sparkling occassion, the event has obviously shown why the industry in the Middle East and India considers this as leading award ceremony.

Placements: In my batch, 33% of students are placed. Companies such as PIL, BSM, and WAH KWANG visited. Many more companies are expected to come for future placements. The packages offered to cadets depend on the companies, but the salaries are as per the standard market. Overall, HMIT provides the best learning experience for future growth.
Placements: A good number of students got placement opportunities through campus recruitment and campus interviews. The placement support is helpful, especially for students looking to start their career at sea. The salary package is not confirmed yet but depends upon the vessel and the company.
Placements: Top recruiting companies are MOL, BSM, M.Sc. SYNERGY, BW, and many more. The course offers a role as an engine cadet. For B.Tech, salary starts from 900 USD per month and goes up to 18000 USD per month. Every year, HIMT gives 100 percent of placements to shipping companies.
Placements: I, Ebin Joshy from GP 97, feel very proud to say that I am placed in MOLMI Shipping Company through HIMT College. Placement training given by our college is the reason for my placement. The placement assistance is done by our captains and chief Engineers and course in-charges to train the cadets on both the deck and engine side. Placements: A total of 19 students from my course are placed in Mitsui Osk. Many companies are coming to college, like M.Sc. Maersk VR, Maritime Mol, and Synergy. The top roles offered to students are deck cadets, engine trainee, deck trainee, trainee os and Viper.
Placements: Placement in HIMT is good, given the hardships and training, one can easily manage to get selected in prestigious companies coming for selection. Decent package as per the company policy. Many companies in the maritime industry as M.Sc. Maersk, Synergy, Nautilus, Sunav, PIL, MOL, and many more.
