IHM Shimla admissions are primarily entrance-based. The institute selects candidates for BSc based on NCHMCT JEE score. The National Council for Hotel Management & Catering Technology Joint Entrance Exam (NCHMCT JEE) is a national-level hospitality entrance exam for admission to BSc (Hospitality & Hotel Administration). Admission to the MSc course is through NCHMCT MSc JEE score. For other programmes, the merit of the candidates in the last qualifying exam is considered for selection.

IHM Shimla cutoff 2025 has been released for Round 1. As per the cutoff list, the closing rank for BSc in Hospitality and Hotel Administration was 7905 for the students belonging to the General AI quota. The cutoff has been released as opening and closing ranks for different categories of students under the AI quota.
