Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology (JIST), also popularly known as IIT Sotai.
Placements: Civil engineering department of Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology (JIST) saw steady placement progress for the 2024 pass-out batch. Out of 65 students, 60 were eligible for placement, and 20 secured job offers, resulting in a placement percentage of 33.33%. The highest package offered was 6 LPA, while the lowest stood at 2.8 LPA, with an average around 3.5 LPA. Notable recruiters included Larsen & Toubro (L&T), Oil India Ltd., Dyna Structures Pvt. Ltd., and various local contractors and consultancies. Students were offered roles such as site engineer, junior civil engineer, estimator, and CAD draftsman.
Infrastructure: Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology (JIST) offered a well-equipped campus with smart classrooms, advanced laboratories, a central library, and Wi-Fi access. Hostels were spacious, with separate blocks for boys and girls, provided clean rooms, 24X7 water and electricity, mess facilities, and a secure environment for students to live and study comfortably.

It is an average college for science students.
Placements: A minimum of 40% of students got placed on campus. The highest salary package offered in the electronics department was 7 LPA, the lowest salary package was 2 LPA, and the average salary package was 3 LPA. Top recruiting companies were Indian Oil, ONGC, Amul, etc. Around 10% of students hardly got internships in this college. Other students need to find online internships on online platforms like Internshala and LinkedIn. Top roles offered were assistant or associate developer, management trainee, and software developer trainee.
Infrastructure: Facilities and infrastructure provided in our college were not up to the mark. Wi-Fi was not provided on campus. Classrooms were not digitalised. Library was good, but didn't contain every study material. Wi-Fi facility was provided in the hostel, and the food served was up to the mark. Canteen served spicy food items available. Medical facilities were not available on campus. Sports and games were well organised. It conducts a tough competition in the sports section every week.
Faculty: Teachers in our college were well-qualified and knowledgeable. They were not updated with the recent industry requirements. Teaching quality was based on the old technical courses. Students were not made ready for the industry as they didn't teach updated skills and followed the old course curriculum. Semester exams were easy to pass because only some portions of the syllabus were asked in the exams. Around 90% of students pass the exams. Some of the students who are not interested get backlogs.
Other: I chose this course because IT is an important part of today's world. Every sector is becoming digital. It provides vast opportunities in the IT sector so that they can easily get jobs. Teaching should be updated, and our campus should be a bit more advanced. Our college organises certain events like Indian festivals, campus fest, sports competitions, etc.

Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology formerly known as Science College.
Placements: About 40% of students were placed as per 2022 batch. The highest package was 6Lac per annum and the average was around 2L per annum and the lowest was 144000 per annum. Byju's and Infosys were the top companies for sales. Almost all students got internships from my course and the companies were Irrigation, Railway, Pwd etc.
Infrastructure: There is limited facilities as compared to other engineering college in Assam. There are three college buses in the campus which helps students to reach college from a far distance also. There is table tennis room and also there is a basketball court in the campus. You will get open field playground for cricket and football as well as volleyball. There are 3 boys hostel and 2 girls hostel.
Faculty: Yes, the faculty of my course are really good and are highly qualified for the course. Most of them have done there M.Tech from IITs and have good engineering experience like survey, construction, building constructions etc. The semesters are not that tough if you study regularly.

I am satisfied with this college.
Placements: Every year many students get placed in reputed companies like NRL, TCS, Infosys, Wipro, CRTD Technology, etc. The highest salary package offered is 11 LPA. The average salary package offered is 6 LPA. Most of our seniors also are working in MNCs in top roles.
Infrastructure: The classrooms are well equipped and hygienic. A Wi-Fi facility is also available on our campus. There is also a library in our college where students can get thousands of books for every subject and department. There is a fresh environment in the library. Hostel facilities are also excellent.
Faculty: In this college, teachers are the best. They help students with every problem they face, be it academic or personal. They are well qualified and talented. If someone attends their classes punctually there is no doubt left. This course is much relevant that it makes the students industry-ready. The semester exams are of average level. The pass percentage is 90%.
Other: I chose the PEI department, because I was fascinated by both electronics and instruments since childhood. It gives students immense pleasure to join this course.

Our college is average enough to become an engineer.
Placements: Placements in JIST are not that good, but the situations are improving day by day. The placement for ETC and mechanical department is good but for civil engineering, you don't have much scope on campus. NRL, IGCL, and Byjus visited the campus this year. It's not clear how much average package one gets on campus placements in civil engineering here. But if you score among top 2 from all the 4 branches you will get an internship abroad.
Infrastructure: Labs and library are average. The number of books are not sufficient but the authority is planning to buy more books this year. Wi-Fi is provided in the hostel. JIST has 3 boys hostel, and 2 girls hostels. The quality of food served is like any other Indian college. We have a small canteen on campus. There is also a dispensary in the college for emergencies. If you are into sports, you can join several sports clubs here.
Faculty: Teachers are recruited through APSC so all permanent teachers are highly qualified. They are helpful in some regards and I suggest not to create any mess with them. The course curriculum is prepared by ASTU and it's relevant to the industry. But one or two years of industry work can only make your skills industry-ready. Since practical field knowledge is more fruitful. The pass percentage for each semester varies between 60-70%. It's not that hard to pass if you study for atleast one month in full swing. Authority is very strict regarding rules and regulations during examinations.
Other: Civil engineering is a core branch of engineering. It's the branch related to the construction of the nation. In Assam, civil engineering has a great scope in government sector jobs. For me, one industry internship is not enough to become industry-ready. If regular interaction with industry/practical field is increased the degree will become more valuable. Abhiyantrix is our tech festival. One can get a life at JIST if he/she knows how to adjust to situations. Everything is not perfect here but We can together make our 4 years memorable. You will get enough options to choose from your hobbies to participate in extracurricular activities.

Decent College, Needs Improvement
.
Placements: Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology (JIST) has an overall placement rate of around 40%. Salary packages range from ?1.44 LPA to ?7?15 LPA, with an average of ?2?3 LPA. Top recruiters include Indian Oil, ONGC, Amul, Byju's, Infosys, Wipro, and TCS. About 10% of students secure internships, mainly with ONGC, NRL, and OIL. While specific job roles aren't well-documented, JIST has a record of placing students in reputed firms. The placement scenario is improving, but better industry collaborations could enhance opportunities for students.
Infrastructure: Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology (JIST) provides excellent infrastructure and facilities for students. Spacious classrooms and well-equipped labs support hands-on learning, while the central and departmental libraries offer extensive academic resources. The institute has on-campus hostels for both boys and girls, ensuring clean rooms with 24/7 electricity, water, and Wi-Fi. Hostel mess facilities are self-managed, focusing on hygiene. A campus health center with a doctor and pharmacist provides medical care. For recreation, JIST offers indoor and outdoor sports facilities, promoting a balanced student life. The overall environment supports both academic and extracurricular development.
Faculty: Jorhat Institute of Science and Technology (JIST) has a well-qualified faculty, with many holding M.Teach or Ph.D. degrees, including alumni from IITs. Professors are approachable and supportive. The curriculum is industry-oriented but may need update to match evolving trends. Semester exams are moderate difficult, assessing students? Understanding effective. Most students find them manageable with proper preparation, though exact pass percentage data is limited. Overall, JIST provides a solid academic environment, but continuous improvements in curriculum update and industry alignment would enhance career readiness for students.
Other: I chose this course due to my interest and career opportunities. JIST offers knowledgeable faculty, industry exposure, and a balance of theory and practical learning. Professors, some from IITs, are supportive. However, labs and classrooms need better facilities, and placements for core branches could improve. Campus life is vibrant with fests, clubs, and sports. The green campus is well-connected by road, though Wi-Fi access needs enhancement. More transparency in scholarships would benefit students. Overall, JIST provides a good academic environment, but improvements in infrastructure and industry tie-ups would enhance student experiences.
