MIT Institute of Design MDes Eligibility & Highlights 2026
The MIT Institute of Design offers a full-time MDes programme. The duration of course is two-years. Total 12 specialisations are offered. Some specialisations are Product Design, Fashion Design, Design Management, etc. Admissions are conducted in two phases. In Phase I, applicants have to submit their Portfolio and Statement of Purpose (SOP). The university selects number of students based on this. Phase II consists of a Studio Test and Interview. Phase II is conducted on-campus in Pune. Applicants may have to appear for Design Aptitude Test (DAT) as well.

Yes, MITID offers MDes in full-time mode for two-years. The course is offered in 12 specialisations. MIT Institute of Design offers three years MDes programme under fourteen specialisation. Candidates must have a Bachelor's degree in the specific specialisation which is required to apply for the MDes specialisation they want to pursue. For example: candidates must have a Bachelor's Degree in Fine/ Applied Arts, Visual Comunnication, Media etc. in order to apply in MDes in Graphic and Animation Design. The total MITID MDes fee is INR 13 lakh. Fee can be paid either annually or in installments. Some extra charges also may apply depending on payment method. The MIT Institute of Design fees consists of various components. Some components include Hostel fee, Mess & Laundry charges, Academic fee, etc. Hostel facility is optional. Students who do not opt for hostels have to pay less total fee, around INR 8-9 lakh.
Total fee for first year is INR 6.8 lakh including all components. For EWS, total first year fee is INR 4.7 lakh. A refundable security deposit of INR 15,000 is paid in first year only. In second year, there is a 10% increase in total fee. Education loan is provided to students by University. Students can repay the loan as per bank’s terms and conditions.

Seats are allotted on the basis of overall performance in both phases of selection. Total 12 specialisations are offered. Number of seats in each specialisation is different. MITID MDes seat reservation is according to Maharashtra Government rules. Maximum 50% reservation could be for SC/ST/OBC and 10% additional for EWS.
Candidates who are not from Maharashtra are considered as General category. For Ex/Active Service Personnel, a 5% seat reservation is there. However, it is mandatory for the candidate to have the domicile and Class 12 completed from Maharashtra.
