On Cutoffs

Q:   What is the difference between CAT score and CAT percentile?

A:

CAT score is the total marks a candidate receives out of the maximum marks, calculated by subtracting the marks of incorrect answers from the marks of correct answers. For every correct answer, +3 is given to the candidates, for every incorrect -1 is deducted from the overall score. Apart from this, a candidate's rank is calculated by normalizing the scores of all candidates and placing them on a common scale based on the difficulty and attempts of the candidates. It is important to understand the difference between CAT score and CAT percentile because IIMs and all MBA colleges in India select candidates on the basis of their CAT and other MBA related exam percentiles and not score.

The CAT percentile is referred to as the rank of a candidate against the rest of the test takers. The percentile indicates the total percentage of candidates who scored less than or equal to a particular candidate in CAT.

Suppose,1,000 people take an exam and you bag the top rank, which means 999 candidates scored less than you. Then your CAT percentile will be 999/1000*100 = 99.9.

The average placement in the 2023-25 batch.
Placements: Students with good grades got a 7 LPA package. The highest package would be 9 LPA, and the average package would be between 5-7 LPA. A few students dropped out of the course in the second year. From 140 students, we went down to 120 students in the second year. Marketing Assistant, Business Development Executive, and HR Manager were a few of the roles offered to the students.
Infrastructure: MIT is a Lyceum institute where events happen every now and then. Wi-Fi, labs, and classrooms are all well-maintained with hygiene. The faculty is really good and will help you understand in a relatable manner. A few students dropped out of the course in the second year. From 140 students, we went down to 120 students in the second year.
Faculty: The teachers are really helpful. When in doubt, they will help you understand in a relatable manner. The semester exams are easy if you attend the lectures because the questions are application-based. The professors are highly qualified with PhDs, and some have real-life experience too.

Really good infrastructure and college life. It has great extracurricular activities and clubs.
Placements: Around 65% of students are placed in the recent batch. The average package is 7 LPA. The highest package is around 51.36 LPA. Top positions like software engineer, data analyst, etc., have been offered by companies like Deloitte, Infosys, Amazon, HCL, and others.
Infrastructure: Infrastructure of college is very nice. They have just built a new building for CS students with a macbook and glass walls with Wi-Fi connection. But the hostel is not that good though you can find several PGs and hostel near college. The area near MIT is quite expensive but you will have the options.
Faculty: Faculty members are quite okay. They will teach but this way or you will need to study by yourself. Attendance criteria might be an issue as 80% attendance is mandatory. So, you cannot bunk classes or something curriculum is just like government colleges. It will make you industry ready as MIT conducts lots of events that will help you with your career just take part in it.

The college is good in all aspects.
Placements: This college is very popular, and as a result, the placement rate is quite high, with nearly 50% of students securing jobs during the placement round. The highest package offered by major companies is around 6 LPA. Top recruiting companies such as TCS, Wipro, and Capgemini participate in the placement process.
Infrastructure: The best thing about the college I personally admire is its infrastructure. It boasts excellent facilities, including unlimited Wi-Fi for students, spacious labs equipped with advanced technology, and classrooms that can accommodate up to 120 students. The library is also very large, and there’s no need to worry about sports facilities; everything is available here.
Faculty: The teaching quality is good. They are highly qualified, well-knowledgeable, and much more expensive. All the teachers have at least 8 years of experience. The course curriculum is very good as the course curriculum makes students industry-ready. The semester exam is not very hard but hard need to study properly.
Other: I chose this course because it aligns with my interests and is future-proof. There’s nothing I see that needs improvement. The events at this college are impressive; it stands out among other colleges. All major festivals are celebrated here, and the connectivity is excellent.

Good infrastructure, average placement and high fees.
Placements: I was placed at Infosys with a package of 7.5 lacs. The highest package was 50 lacs. TCS also recruited students from my college. About 60% of the students got internships, and some students even got a chance to study abroad for a few days.
Infrastructure: There were no sports facilities on campus and no wifi for students. The campus has a very big ground, but it is only used for events. The campus has many trees and is not that big, but it is ok. There is an interdepartmental sports competition each year, and there is an esports club too.
Faculty: The teachers are good and they make sure that the students are industry ready. The semester exams are not that difficult, and the lab and tutorials are also not that difficult. If we attend all the lectures, the teachers will give us full marks. There is an 80% attendance criterion for the exams.
Other: I chose this college because I had an interest in coding. The college offers a variety of events throughout the year, which helps keep things interesting.
