The admission process broadly involves online registration, entrance test, result declaration, counselling and seat allotment. Students must satisfy the eligibility criteria for the institute before applying for the desired course. 2: Appear for the Entrance Exam
The candidate will have to go through the NIFT Entrance Exam in the next stage. The test is usually divided into two segments: the written examination and the situation test/ interview. Moreover, the written exam is conducted in online mode. The situation test is in offline mode, and the personal interview is in online mode.
3: Release of Cutoff List

NIFT is a national-level design entrance exam conducted by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). The exam is conducted once every year and it consist of two parts, i.e, first one is, written exam and second is, situation test/personal interview.
- Written Exams - It comprise the GAT and CAT. The GAT paper is mandatory for all programs, while only BDes and MDes candidates need to take the CAT.
- Situation Test/ Personal Interview - BDes candidates who get shortlisted have to appear in the Situation Test, whereas PG candidates need to appear in a Personal Interview. The only exception is BFTech program, where the admission merit list will be prepared solely based on GAT scores.
The FINAL score of NIFT 2024 for the other programs will be prepared by giving weightage to the written exams and Situation Test/ Personal Interview.
The scores or merit rank of NIFT will be considered for admission to design courses offered by the NIFT participating institutes. Currently, there are 18 participating institutes that offer the following courses - BDes, MDes, BFTech, MFTech, and MFM courses.
NIFT Cutoff 2025 has been released for Round 5 for various categories. During the Round 5 cutoff, the closing ranks ranged between 226 and 2374 wherein BDes in Fashion Communication turned out as the toughest course to get into National Institute of Fashion Technology, Kannur for the students belonging to the General AI category students. Students need to secure a valid score in order to confirm their admission at the institute.
NIFT Kannur offers B.Des programs in Fashion Design, Fashion Communication, Textile Design, and Knitwear Design. Each programme admits 44 students, making a total of 176 students for B.Des at NIFT Kannur. To be eligible, you need to pass the 12th class with at least 50% marks (45% for SC/ST) and have a good score in the NIFT Entrance Exam.

NIFT Kannur offers six specialisations such as (Fashion Design / Leather Design / Accessory Design / Textile Design / Knitwear Design / Fashion Communication. Students who clear both tests are required to appear for the Situation Test for the final selection. For the current academic year (2022–2023), the hostel price is Rs. 46000, excluding mess fees. In addition to the foregoing, new participants must pay a non-refundable security deposit of Rs. 3000 and a refundable security deposit of Rs. 3000, for a total of Rs. 52000 for non-AC rooms with triple occupancy. Charges for triple occupancy AC rooms will be Rs. 90,000 plus Rs. 6,000 in refundable security, for a total of Rs. 99,000 (subject to construction completion). It could vary in accordance with authority decisions, and any changes would be announced separately.
In addition, one month's worth of Mess fees may be applied for Mess Security.

The number of students who will get assistance from this scheme in a year will be based on the number approved by the Board of Governors while considering the policy.
Regular students belonging to financially weaker sections of NIFT fulfilling the standards of the "SARTHAK” NIFT Financial Assistance Scheme", will be eligible for consideration under the “UDAAN”- NIFT SCHOLARSHIP SCHEME FOR FOREIGN STUDIES”. The assistance of this Scheme shall not extend to NRI/NRI-sponsored students. A selected number of students per year will be shortlisted across the NIFT campuses. The finally selected students will receive sponsorship for the approved course fees for the period along with a travel and survival grant.

- One self-attested passport size photograph with signature

National Institute of Fashion Technology Kannur is a government institute established in 2008. It has a great infrastructure and is equipped with great facilities, well-equipped design studios, a well-stocked library, computer labs etc. It offers BDes programme for a duration of four years in four specialisations. Candidates are required to appear for NIFT Entrance Exam and the students are accepted on the basis of merit. While in the other hand the institute offers four years of full-time BFTech in Apparel Technology.
