NIFT Chennai Admission 2026: Eligibility, Selection Process & Last Date

Yes, NIFT Chennai indeed offers admission to foreign students. NRI students are shortlisted based on their GMAT/ GRE/ SAT scores among other parameters. The institute reserves 5 seats for students applying via NRI/ foreign national category. Students must satisfy the eligibility to get into the institute. The basic eligibility requires candidates to have a Degree/ Certificate from a recognised board/ university and an equivalence certificate obtained from AIU, New Delhi. Joining NIFT Chennai's BDes programme without entrance exam doesn't seem like a possibility. As per the Institution's admission guidelines, candidates must appear for the qualify The National Institute of Technology (NIFT) exam. The exam is conducted once every year and has TWO parts:

• Written Exams - It comprise the GAT and CAT. The GAT paper is mandatory for all programs, while only B.Des and M.Des candidates need to take the CAT. 
• Situation Test/ Personal Interview - B.Des candidates who get shortlisted have to appear in the Situation Test.

Admission to BDes at NIFT Chennai is solely entrance-based. Candidate have to fill the online application form of The National Institute of Technology (NIFT). The NIFT 2024 application fee for the OPEN category is INR 3,000. However, SC, ST, and PwD candidates need to pay only INR 1,500. Once the application form is filled, candidates have to submit the form along with the application fee.

The National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Chennai accepts the General Ability Test (GAT) for admission to its B.F. Tech program. NIFT also accepts CAT scores for admission to its B. Des program. 

To be eligible for B.F. Tech, candidates must have passed 10+2 with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology as a main subject from a recognised institute. The qualifying age is 24 years as on August 1 of the year of admission. For candidates of Scheduled Castes/Scheduled Tribe/ Persons With Disabilities (PWD), the upper age limit may be relaxed by a period of five years. 

B.FTech course at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) Chennai costs INR 12.77 lakh. The course is four years long and is offered full-time.

Yes, the NIFT Chennai offers a four-year full time degree course in BDes. This course is taught across six specialisations, namely Fashion Design, Leather Design, Knitwear Design, Accessory Design, Textile Design and Fashion Communication.  Admission to the programme, entirely based on the NIFT entrance exam.

National Institute of Fashion Technology Chennai offers admission to a four-year Bachelor degree course in Designing. BDes course is offered across six specialisation: 

NIFT Chennai admission 2026 is currently open for various courses. The application process at National Institute of Fashion Technology Chennai is conducted online. Students can check the list of documents required for admission below:

NIFT Chennai offers a BDes programme to students at the UG level. It is offered in full-time mode for a duration of 4 years. The college offers this programme in several specialisations such as Fashion Design, Accessory Design, Fashion Communication, etc. 

Candidates who have twelve years of school education with minimum of five subjects by the National Open School or from a recognised board are eligible for the BDes at NIFT Chennai. Additionally, as per the Institution's guidelines, candidate's maximum age should be less than 24 years (5 years relaxation in upper age for people from reserved categories). Now candidates are only required to appear for the NIFT entrance exam for BDes admission.

The NIFT Chennai application window is open for admission to the Design courses. Candidates seeking admission could have applied online till January, without a late fee. With a late fee of INR 5,000, candidates could apply till last of month. 

 NIFT Chennai offers a total of 305 seat intake for BDes and BDes lateral entry course. The seat breakup for the BDes coursre is 43 as per the specialisations offered in BDes and for the BDes lateral entry its 47 altogether.  The seat allocation has respectively common for all the reserved categories and division is equal for each specialisation. Additionally, 5 seats are given as per each specialisation for NRI and foreign candidates.
