The design school offer two design programmes of duration ranging from two to five years. UPES School of Design Admission Process 2025
For admission, a candidate must have a valid score in either of the accepted exams for the applied course. Candidates without a valid score in the national-level exams can take the entrance examination conducted by UPES for design course admissions. UPES School of Design's admission process is a multi-step procedure. Candidates can read on for more details about each of the admission stages:
STEP 1: SoDS Dehradun Application Process 2025
The school of design accept applications via online mode. Hence, the eligible candidates can visit its official website to apply. During the form filling, candidates should keep scanned copies of the important documents handy. The application can further be submitted successfully after the fee payment. To apply for the UPES DAT exam, candidates can visit the university website only.
STEP 2: Shortlisting of Students
The school further shortlists applications based on the candidate's scores in the accepted examinations. Such students should be informed over mail or through any either medium about the selection.
STEP 3: Portfolio Presentation & Interview
Shortlisted candidates are further required to appear for the portfolio presentation and the interview round. A candidate must participate in these selection rounds for admission. The schedule for the same shall be available on the UPES official website.
STEP 4: Admission Confirmation

BDes is a full-time four-year programme offered at the PG level. It is offered under the semester pattern and divided into eight semesters. The programme is offered in nine different specialisations. and candidates are selected based on entrance exam scores and their performance in PI. Additionally, the minor specialisations include Service design, Psychology, Film and Video/Photography, Social Impact Design, Robotics, Accessory Design, Exhibition Design, Artificial Intelligence and Immersive Media Design. Also, the School offers a BDes+MDes programme for students.

BDes is the flagship course of UPES School of Design as students will go through a step-by-step learning experience so as to develop a comprehensive and complete understanding of interior design. UPES School Of Design arranges creativity workshops and provides various opportunities that form a part of the learning experience. Also, BDes students receive placements in top companies.
BDes programme is offered in nine specialisations, which include Industrial & Product, Game, Fashion, Interaction Design, Animation & VFX Design, Transportation & Mobility, Life Style & Accessory and Graphic.

At the PG level, the School offers two courses, MDes and MPlan. The duration of both courses is two years. The course is divided into four semesters. MPlan admissions are merit-based whereas UPES also conducts an entrance exam for MDes.
MDes programme is offered in seven different specialisations with each specialisation having a seat intake of 10 students. As a part of the course curriculum, students should take an internship for the course completion. Students who have completed graduation in Designing, can apply for MDes programme. The final selection of students is based on the entrance exam scores and their performance in PI followed by a presentation on their work portfolio.

Scholarship for MDes students:
MDes students are awarded a scholarship based on their Class 10, Class 12 and graduation scores. A tuition fee waiver of 50 per cent will be given to the candidates who have secured an aggregate of 60 per cent in Class 10, Class 12 and graduation.
