B.Tech. in Computer Science and Engineering - Batch of 2018
2.6
The college lacks opportunities and facilities.
Placements: On average, students got a salary package of 4 LPA. College, being in a remote location, not many companies come for campus hiring. Top recruiting companies include Intel, Bharat petroleum, and Power Grid. The highest salary package offered was 18 LPA and the minimum salary package offered was 3.5 LPA. Students were mostly sent to IITs for internships.
Infrastructure: The college is located in a very remote location. The climate is always cold and rainy. Only a limited number of classrooms are available in our college. Not much scope for sports and games. Badminton, table tennis, football, and cricket are often played. Library has limited number of books. So students need to share it.
Faculty: The college doesn't have much-qualified faculty members. Mostly, teachers preferred PPT. Course curriculum is some what relevant but mostly, it is useless. Semester exams are based on what was taught in class and can be cleared with basic preparations. Students should score at least 40%.

It is the best college if you like nature.
Placements: Placements are good if you are in CSE. Otherwise, placements are average. Still, it is improving every year. I heard about the permanent campus that would surely improve it. The average salary package offered is around 6 LPA, and the highest salary package offered is around 15 LPA. It is good as compared with other northeast NIT.
Infrastructure: Our college infrastructure is not great because it is a temporary campus. Classrooms are small. The hostel of first-year boys is outside the campus, and all other hostels are on the campus. Hostels are average, but you have to live with 3 members at least in the room. Mess food quality is poor.
Faculty: Teachers of most of the branches are helpful and good, especially of CSE. I always hear from EEE students that their faculty members are very strict, but if you do what they said, then there won't be any problem. The exam pattern is like 2 mid-semester and 1 end semester, and the difficulty depends on teachers and not college.
Other: You would surely get the best campus life in Sikkim, and you would definitely be impressed with the beauty of Sikkim. You can travel to Sikkim in the holidays, but it is a bit expensive. Sports activities are limited.

I am dissatisfied because of weather and unavailability of most things.
Placements: Above 90% of the students got placed in the CSE department. The highest salary package offered was 22 LPA (approximately) from the EEE department. The average salary package offered is of 6 LPA, and the lowest salary package offered is 3.20 LPA. Top recruiting companies are L&T Power, L&T Infotech, L&T Construction, Power Grid, McAffe, Byjus and Vedanta. Almost every student gets an internship, and they get selected in Power Grid, etc.
Infrastructure: The facilities provided by the college are very poor in any course. But the computer science and engineering department are the best among all the others in terms of facilities. Classrooms are dilapidated as there is very cold here in winters and the environment is not at all suitable for studying. The library is very small as it contains very few books and Wi-Fi is the worst amongst all. Labs are fine, but they need trained facilities. The quality of the food served is much worse, and it can be rated 2 out of 10. The medical facility is very poor as the nearest hospital is 28kms away from here, which needs an hour to reach, doctors visit in a week, and the assistants are very untrained. No such facility is available for many things. Sports are like a dream for a student in this college except for volleyball because there is no ground for them to play.
Faculty: Some teachers are experienced, but major of them are new who had just submitted their PhD, and their teachings are limited to a certain extent. Students are very much far from the competitive world, and the course structure is very weak as it concentrates on quantity and not on quality.
Other: I chose this course because of my interests in this field. The best thing is that you need not be dependent on faculty members for knowledge as they are entirely available on the internet. The college needs a lot of improvements, such as involvement in events, facilities for new projects and better faculty members. Connectivity is the worst part of this college as it seems to be living in an exile while studying here. There are two major events such as Udgam that is a cultural festival and Abhiyantran, which is a technical fest.

Totally satisfied because of placements scenario, climate and exposure provided by NIT.
Placements: The average salary offered is around 8.5 LPA, whereas the highest package is about 18lpa. Around 95 per cent of students of the last batch of CSE got placed. Top recruiting companies are hackerrank, McAfee, Samsung etc. In my course, everyone has completed at least 2 internships till now in various IIT and several private limited companies via our Training and placement cell.
Infrastructure: This college provides all required facilities like well-equipped computer labs with high-end processors, 24/7 accessible rich library, fast and free Wi-Fi for students and classrooms are also equipped with smartboards and heaters (since there is heavy cold in ravangla). Mess food quality is okay, Hostel has everything that a student needs. Medical facilities are quite good, as there is a medical department of college with well-qualified doctors and a college-owned ambulance for critical situations.
Faculty: Yes, teachers are all well qualified and knowledgeable. Course Curriculum contains all things which are in the state of art in computer science. It contains various components which side by side help student to be industry-ready. The curriculum is prepared to establish a balance between research field and industrial field.
Other: I love computer science and especially the AI field, and that's the reason that I have gone for it at first. The course should contain a little bit more practicals to make it more interesting. The scholarship approval process is very easy if someone is eligible. There are various fest and events are organized time to time, but of course, there is little bit problem of connectivity due to hilly region, but again scenery and climate is what makes it very beautiful campus too.

I am satisfied, and it is a great college.
Placements: The placements are going on smoothly, and many local companies are visiting as well as some new companies. Above 70 percent of the students are placed in senior batch. Many IT roles and core roles were offered to the students. There is a placement cell, and it is very useful.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is nice, be it classrooms, library, or labs. Various sports and games facilities are available in the campus. The quality of food in the canteen is good, and we have cosy hostel rooms. The classrooms quality is in very top quality. No such major infrastructure related issues were faced.
Faculty: The teachers are very knowledgeable, helpful, and very much qualified to teach the students. Two-way communication is used from time to time, but during numerical, one-way communication seems more effective. The curriculum is useful, but in my opinion, little updating would be helpful.

One of the average colleges of India.
Placements: The last placement was average. The highest placement so far is 12 lacs and the lowest is 4 lacs. The previous average placement was 5 lacs. The placement percentages of the computer science and engineering department this year is above 90%. The best recruiters which came to our college were Intel, Microsoft, Virtusa etc.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is not so good, but the Wi-Fi is very good. The classrooms and library are average, and the sports and Games are below average. The medical facilities are good, and the labs are still in a developing condition. The college has done a good growth in the last 6 years. NIT-Sikkim is one of the 10 newly sanctioned NITs under the 11th five-year plan of 2009. New hostels for the new students are good, and the mess food is average.
Faculty: The college being in North-East India, has a lack of faculty members' quality. Most of the faculty members have just completed PhD and some are still doing PhD in the same college. Their highest experience is of 3 years. They are helpful but not that much qualified as the other institutes of national importance. The course plan was created by NIT Calicut, so it is little disturbing here for the 1st year. But it is average for the seniors. The student to faculty ratio is 10:1.

Other: It's a college of national importance with NIT tag. It has some basic problems at the beginning but now days it is tending towards excellence. Overall, it's has best campus beauty and climate conditions. The campus life is full of entertainment and opportunities for the students. Locality near the campus is good and also, very cooperative with the students.

Poor placements, very bad infrastructure, no facilities.
Placements: It is not that good. Placement is possible only by hard work on one’s own, and the placement cell helps a little. The rest is possible only by one’s own hard work. You have to go and fight for placement yourself. No company comes here. Overall, you have to do everything yourself.
Infrastructure: The infrastructure is very bad. Even the basic things are not available here, or they are useless. It is absolutely poor. It is a very small college, and the hostel is also very small. Six students live in one room. The equipment in the labs is very old, and even the computers are old. There is no place to study in the library, and there is no other facility where you can study well. There is not even a carrom board in the hostel to play. The infrastructure is very bad, and the standards are poor.
Faculty: The syllabus is good and moderate, but the curriculum is very old, like other NITs. Teachers do not teach well, and you have to study on your own. The exams are moderate, and if you work hard on your own, you will score well. The exam is never very hard; only some subjects are hard. There are some teachers who deliberately give bad marks to students and make the papers hard. I found some subjects irrelevant to my branch, as they are taught without any meaning. The quality of education here is rubbish.
Other: I am interested in CS, so I took this course. The best thing about my course is that it allows me to explore more, and there are more job opportunities. Industrial-related subjects should be taught, and colleges should design more courses like this. Events are nothing, they just play the DJ and nothing else. There is a programme called Ekdam Fest, which also just plays the DJ and nothing else. Connectivity is very poor and very remote. There is no good city nearby. There are no cinema halls, no malls, and no extracurricular activities. There are many scholarships.
