NIFT Seat Matrix 2026
One must understand the NIFT admission process and seat matrix, as the seat count is directly linked to your prospects of getting admission. The NIFT entrance exam is conducted to shortlist aspirants for admission in design courses offered at the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT) campuses.
NIFT exam written exam will be held on February 08, 2026. The National Institute of Fashion Technology has 19 participating institutes. NIFT 2026 participating institutes will offer a total of around 5076 seats across the All-India, state domicile, and NRI categories, and all these campuses select candidate on the basis of their scores in the NIFT entrance exam.

NIFT 2026 Seat Matrix
Take a look at the NIFT Seat Matrix of 2026 and previous years:
- In 2022, the total number of seats available was 5,023. The break-up of seats included 4,188 All India seats, 377 State domicile seats, and 458 seats reserved for NRI/OCI/Foreign Nationals/SAARC.
- In 2023, the total number of seats increased to 5,199. This included 4,324 All India seats, 405 State domicile seats, and 470 seats for NRI/Foreign Nationals.
- In 2024, the total number of seats available was 5,289.
- In 2025, the total number of seats was 4,837, excluding the NRI seats.
- In 2026, the total number of seats is 5076 seats.

NIFT 2026 Admission Process
NIFT admissions 2026 will be a two-tiered process wherein aspirants need to first clear the written tests (CAT and GAT). Shortlisted candidates have to appear next in a Situation Test/Personal Interview. The NIFT 2026 merit rank for admission will be prepared by giving weightage to each test component.

NIFT is a national-level design entrance exam conducted by the National Institute of Fashion Technology (NIFT). The exam is conducted once every year and it consist of two parts, i.e, first one is, written exam and second is, situation test/personal interview.
- Written Exams - It comprise the GAT and CAT. The GAT paper is mandatory for all programs, while only BDes and MDes candidates need to take the CAT.
- Situation Test/ Personal Interview - BDes candidates who get shortlisted have to appear in the Situation Test, whereas PG candidates need to appear in a Personal Interview. The only exception is BFTech program, where the admission merit list will be prepared solely based on GAT scores.
The FINAL score of NIFT 2024 for the other programs will be prepared by giving weightage to the written exams and Situation Test/ Personal Interview.
The scores or merit rank of NIFT will be considered for admission to design courses offered by the NIFT participating institutes. Currently, there are 18 participating institutes that offer the following courses - BDes, MDes, BFTech, MFTech, and MFM courses.
Yes, NIFT Hyderabad does follow seat reservation for MFM courses. The seats are reserved for SC/ ST/ Persons With Disabilities (PWD) / Foreign Nationals /SAARC / NRI, in MFM programme. Check out the below table to learn more about the seat allocated to reserved categories below:

No, National Institute of Fashion Technology Bhubaneswar does not offer admission without entrance exam. The institute conducts NIFT Entrance Exam including General Ability Test (GAT) and Creativity Ability Test (CAT). Aspirants need to qualify both GAT and CAT for BDes and BFTech courses. No, you cannot join National Institute of Fashion Technology Patna directly. You need to qualify in the entrance exam in order to take admission. The entrance exam is conducted by the university which is NIFT test. This exam contains various levels or steps like aptitude test, situation test, group discussion etc. Students need to qualify in the entrance exams and the cutoff. The cutoff will be released according to the number of seats and applicants. After the student qualifies in the cutoff he/she will pass through final admission steps and will get the final admission.
