My college experience has made me more focused and goal-oriented, says Shreeya Bhonsle
By: Shreeya Bhonsle
I was preparing for JEE Mains, CET, and VITEEE. The preparation for JEE Mains eventually prepared me for CET as well as VITEEE. It was difficult to balance both school academics and entrance exam preparations as it was quite hectic and exhausting. But my friends kept me motivated to work hard and often helped me to cope up with my stress.
Since my school days, I have been very fond of Science and Technology. That's why I always wanted to pursue a career in the Science field. My interest in Science was the main reason for choosing Science as my stream for higher secondary education. Another reason to choose Science was the ample career opportunities that I will get after my higher secondary. I love coding and had learnt coding languages in my school and junior college wholeheartedly.
Like any other student, I also started preparing for the engineering entrance exams from 11th standard itself. I researched several engineering colleges in Pune. I did not want to go out of Pune for my studies as Pune has several top engineering colleges. I applied for Computer science, Electronics and Telecommunication, and IT courses in different colleges. But Computer Science and IT are the top preferences of every other Indian engineering student nowadays, so I decided to do something different and chose Electronics and Telecommunications. I chose All India Shri Shivaji Memorial Society's Institute of Information Technology (AISSMS IOIT) to pursue my undergraduate course because my cousin is an alumnus of this college. She has been an inspiration for me and I always go to her for any guidance or help.
I wanted to get admission in a top engineering college and for that, I needed to score well in my entrance exams. I joined coaching classes in XI-XII to prepare well for the entrance exams. The institute was not far from my home and that saved a lot of my travelling time. I was preparing for JEE Main, CET, and VITEEE. The preparation for JEE Main eventually prepared me for CET as well as VITEEE. It was difficult to balance both school academics and entrance exam preparations as it was quite hectic and exhausting. But my friends kept me motivated to work hard and often helped me to cope up with my stress.
I cracked admission in AISSMS IOIT college by securing a good percentile in JEE Main. I got the course which I wanted and was eagerly waiting for my college journey to start. I was trying for other colleges too but AISSMS IOT was my top priority.
In my first year, I was very serious about getting a good SGPA and had even joined coaching classes for mechanics and engineering mathematics subjects. I always wanted to be the topper of my batch and course as well. By the end of my first year, I made several friends at my college. I and my friends used to go out for Maggi and tea during the breaks at a stall outside our college.
During my second semester, our college organized an annual event for the students. I and my friends volunteered to help our seniors in various tasks and ended up making a great network. I am an IEEE member at my college. We organize and participate in technical as well as non-technical events. In the second year, I took an IEEE membership which provided me with many good opportunities to improve my soft as well as technical skills through various events and competitions.
I spend most of my college time in attending lectures. But apart from studies, I have volunteered for various technical bodies in planning and executing several events. I have also participated in various national and collegiate level competitions. My interests lie in the internet of things and app development. Both these topics are really vast and I enjoy learning about them. I want to explore them more and upskill myself in them.
My college experience has made me more focused and goal-oriented. It has taught me to work harder each day to achieve my goals. I wanted to pursue my Masters from abroad. Keeping it as my goal, I am preparing myself for it.
