How I chose my college and course: Somyajit Dutta
When I was in 12th standard, it was my dream to study BTech in Mechanical Engineering from a good college or university. Then came the day I wrote AP EAMCET. I bagged a pretty convincing rank of around 16000. I was also disheartened that I couldn't crack IIT entrance examination. Being from an average middle-class family, I couldn't afford studying at expensive private colleges across the country which claim to create intellectuals with a bright future. My only hope now was to join an average private college under AP EAMCET’s convener quota at a nominal fee. Then, I started my journey of graduating from Raghu Engineering College, which I chose because of its fairly decent fee structure and excellent education standards.
The college is one of the best in the entire districts of Visakhapatnam and Vizianagaram. Students from both the districts and from some neighboring districts and states prefer the college for its good education standards. The college isn't the topmost in the city of Visakhapatnam but considering the fact that all others are pretty expensive, Raghu Engineering College is pretty awesome. The only admission criteria is getting a seat through AP EAMCET or by management quota. If one wants to pursue Mechanical Engineering from Raghu Engineering College, one has to secure a rank below 17000 in the open (general) category.
Life at Raghu Engineering College is pretty amazing, like at any other engineering college. The college has a good infrastructure, Wi-Fi for students and staff, hostels for girls and boys, a canteen with great food at reasonable prices. It is always about what you study and how much you learn that matters and not the college you graduate from. Raghu Engineering College is striving hard to give the best a student can get to keep up with the corporate world. There are a number of clubs (technical and non-technical) in the college. It has Electro Lounge, Invention Studio, and Coding Lounge for students belonging to the various fields of engineering, since the college recognizes the need of multidisciplinary knowledge among students. There are also art club, speakers club, quiz club, dance club, music club, and drama club to encourage the extra-curricular development of the students. The students can enroll into any of the clubs depending on their interests. The college has a central library which is well-furnished and stacked with a lot of books. I have made the best decision of my life to study here at Raghu Engineering College. You need to understand one thing straight- whatever you do, you should always be interested in the subject you are graduating in. It shouldn't be a preference made due to family or peer pressure.
As a student, I have realised one thing that I would love to share, apart from all the other things I said- No matter what happens, do not have backlogs in your semester examinations. Although I don't have any, many students do have and it becomes very difficult to clear those subjects later. And even if you do clear them after many attempts, it makes your degree worthless. Love your subject and your future will be bright! It has to be that way.
